CURTIS, Edward Sheriff (American, 1868-1952). Edward S. Curtis Self-Portrait in Field Attire. [Circa 1899]. Original photogravure on Dutch Van Gelder paper. Image lacks captions and identifiers typically found in lower margin (possibly a printer’s proof). Image 10 x 7”; sheet 18 ¾ x 11”; frame 23 ¼ x 19 ¼”. Matted. Deckle edges, Van Gelder watermark visible. Some spots of discoloration and toning overall. Adhesive residue along paper’s right edge (not affecting image). Image ghosted verso. Image is in very good condition and presents well. This is one of the best known portraits of Curtis, taken in his early 30s. All proceeds benefit the Howard L. Gottlieb Foundation, which has been supporting nonprofit organizations in the fine arts since 2015.
