(AMERICAN INDIANS.) Portrait of a tribal policeman and his wife. Sixth-plate tintype photograph, 2 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches to sight, in early case; minor wear. No place, circa 1880s

    Notes:
  • A tribal policeman is posed for a studio portrait, with his badge visible. The woman next to him, presumably his wife, wears what appears to be one of the early Pendleton blankets over her shoulders. Provenance: Cowan's sale, 20 June 2009, lot 595, where the sitter is identified as from the Nez Percé of Idaho.
