AMERICAN / EUROPEAN WHITEWORK TRAPUNTO QUILTS, LOT OF TWO, hand-stitched, comprising an American quilt, top with two joined panels having quilted and stuffed-work designs, featuring a central basket of flowers with feathery leaves, encompassed by a grapevine roundel, all-over diagonal grid quilting, running plume and beaded quilted border along three sides, applied tape binding, four-paneled plain backing; and an American or European quilt, top with three joined panels featuring heavily quilted and stuffed-work designs, center with a large basket of flowers encompassed by a double plume frame having center band of undulated pea pod and leaf border, wide outer border with foliate and floral motifs, later rolled wide back-over-front binding, three-paneled muslin backing. 1810-1830. Grapevine quilt 97 1/2" x 93 1/2"; double frame 89" x 92".

  • Grapevine in repaired condition, top having several patches and mends, overall moderate to heavy toning, some scattered stains/spots, backing in similar condition but with a few sizable patches; double frame in poor overall condition, top with several holes and losses, scattered patches and mends, overall moderate to heavy toning, scattered stains/spots, edges later rolled and mends, backing in similar condition with some holes and mends.
