    Notes:
  • An extensive collection of the longest-running periodical in America. "Robert B. Thomas did not begin his Farmer's Almanac until 1792 (for 1793), but he soon became the leader in the almanac field. In 1832 he changed the title to the Old Farmer's Almanac, to distinguish it from its many imitators"--Stowell, early American Almanacs, page 99. Its annual weather predictions have been a staple from the beginning, still generated from the same secret system created by Thomas. While the majority of the issues in this lot were printed in Boston, a few were printed in Brookline, MA; Providence, RI; and Dublin, NH. Drake 3493 and passim; Evans 24847, 26254, 27792, 29626; 31294, 32922, 36414, 34654, 38630.
