Aladimir Shkurkin oil on masonite; Frame 28.5"x34.5", 23.5" x 29.5" Image Landscape painter, muralist. Born in China on July 7, 1900. Shkurkin was educated in a military school in Siberia with art studies at the School of Fine Art in Kiev (1917-22). Upon immigrating to America in 1925, he moved to Seattle where he painted murals in many public buildings (Eagles Auditorium, Civic Auditorium, Egyptian Building). In 1938 he arrived in San Francisco and did murals in the San Francisco Pavilion and Brazilian Pavilion for the GGIE. After settling in nearby Vallejo in 1941, he was a commercial artist at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, a job he kept until retiring in 1963. He then continued to paint, exhibit, and teach privately. Shkurkin died in Vallejo on Nov. 3, 1990. His work includes about 3,000 paintings. Member: SWA; Artist League of Vallejo; Diablo AA; Oakland AA; El Cerrito AA; Sonoma Art Center. Awards: 42 first prizes and 85 lesser awards.
