Opaque watercolor on three long horizontal seamed cloth panel, with a turned edge at the top, raw edges at the sides, and a salvaged edge at the bottom; according to the label affixed to the frame, verso: "Such hangings were in Rajasthan as a backdrop in dramatic performances. This particular legend, depicted in elaborated detail in this example, was especially popular. The representation follows the ritualized postures and gestures that the actors would make on stage"

  • Condition:
  • Overall generally good condition. Scattered light soiling, staining overall, and small, vertical splits. A few areas with small dark stains in the upper right quadrant. Edges with scattered raveled threads. Scattered pigment losses primarily along the upper edge. Possible fainting/wear to the lower edge and scattered small splits and loss along the extreme lower edge. Stitched mounted to a plain weaved back mat. Textile not examined off of the frame.

In circumstances where Moran arranges for such third-party services, Moran may apply an administration charge of 15% of that service fee. Moran assumes no responsibility for acts or omissions in such packing or shipping by other packers or carriers, even if recommended by Moran. Moran also assumes no responsibility for any damage to picture frames or to the glass therein.
