CYRUS WEST FIELD (1819-1892). American Businessman and Financier, who, along with other entrepreneurs, created the Atlantic Telegraph Company and laid the first telegraph cable across the Atlantic Ocean in 1858, over which Queen Victoria sent a Morse Code greeting to President James Buchanan.
February 14, 1878-Dated, Partially-Printed Check Signed, "Cyrus W. Field" drawn on The National City Bank, New York, Very Fine. This example with 2c blue Revenue Stamp affixed at left, made to the New York Life Insurance Co. Measures about 7.25" x 3". One central punch cancellation does not affect Field's deep brown vivid signature. This item also accompanied with its certified PASS-CO, LLC Certificate of Authentication.
