1864 Endorsement Signature of Union Cavalry General Phil Sheridan with CDV and a Patriotic Letter Sheet "Sheridan's Ride
PHILIP H. SHERIDAN, (1831-1888). Union Army Major General who Commanded the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Potomac; After the Civil War, he Waged War on the Native Americans During the Indian Wars of the Great Plains; was Commanding General of the U.S. Army from 1883 until his death in 1888 at age 57.
Lot of Three PHILIP H. SHERIDAN related items, including:
1. April 19, 1864 Civil War Dated Signed Endorsement, "P. H. Sheridan", on clean wove period paper measuring 3.5" x 4", which reads, in full:
"Head Quarters Cavalry Corps. - April 19, 1864. Approved and respectfully forwarded. The commission having been exhibited. -- (Signed) P. H. Sheridan Major General Comdg"
2. Accompanied by a Carte De Visite with a sharp crisp Photograph of a seated General Sheridan in uniform, wearing his distinctive hat. Am original 2c Revenue stamp on the plain back, EF.
3. Grouping also includes an original colorful 1864 Song Sheet titled, "Sheridan's Ride" by Magee. Measures 5" x 7-7/8".
All three items being Choice Extremely Fine or better. (3 items).
