Property from The Estates of Thomas N. Armstrong III & Whitney 'Bunty' Brewster Armstrong Tuesday, February 13th, 2024 @ 10AM Thomas N. Armstrong III was an American museum curator and collector who was director emeritus of the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Andy Warhol Museum. He was also a board member of the New York School of Interior Design. Armstrong died in 2011 at the age of 78. He and his wife "Bunty", who died in 2022 at the age of 84, were long time supporters of The Garden Conservancy of which Mr. Armstrong, who created a three-acre garden at his country home at Fishers Island, New York, became chairman in 2007. Mrs. Armstrong was active as a member of The River Club and The Cosmopolitan Club, a long-time sustaining member of the New York Junior League, a long-time board member of the Women's Prison Association, and head of the Ladies Committee of the National Horse Show. We are honored to be offering to the market some of the fruits of the Armstrong lifetimes of collecting in this important winter single-owner sale.

Condition Statements: Auction buying is wholesale and not the same as retail store or retail internet buying. There are no returns based on condition. Our auction items are mostly vintage, mostly from estates, and are not in perfect condition. The items are sold "as is", and we are acting as agents, not as principals. Accordingly, prospective buyers are entirely responsible for determining the physical condition of lots prior to and as a condition to bidding. Bidders are obligated to determine their level of interest in and value of the items based solely on their own review. To assist prospective bidders in this endeavor, we offer in person open-house preview days prior to the auction, and also provide written condition reports in response to emailed requests submitted to [email protected] at least two days prior to the auction. The printed catalog lot information is a best efforts presentation of our opinion, rendered on a time-sensitive schedule, and is provided for guidance only, without legal obligation, and does not constitute a "statement of fact". The absence of condition statements in a lot catalog entry does not mean that the item is in perfect condition or is without defects. Please understand that our duty is to present the items fairly for bidder consideration and that the bidder's duty is to make independent investigation of the condition of items before bidding.

Payments Accepted : Payments accepted are cash, approved checks, money orders, cashier's checks, credit cards and wire transfers. We do not accept debit cards, Paypal or Venmo. Credit card payments are accepted only up to $2000, unless the purchaser is present in the gallery and the card is swiped. Credit card payments constitute a 3% fee which will be reflected as an increase in the buyer's premium. Split payments (more than one form of payment on a single invoice) are not accepted. Domestic invoices over $2000 must be paid by cash, check or wire transfer. International invoices over $2000 must be paid by wire transfer. Valid credit card information may be required to register to bid, and a deposit may be taken toward any balance due resulting from successful bids. First time buyers must establish bank credit before the auction in order to have "approved check" status, and first time buyers may be required to pay by check or wire transfer. References from other auctioneers may also be required or may satisfy the credit reference requirement. Purchases paid for with non-approved personal/business checks or international bank checks/money orders are not released until seven days from receipt of payment or until payment clears. Wire transfers are accepted with a $25.00 additional wire transfer fee added to the invoice price.
