The decoration is bright and raised from the surface. 7" ht. x 5" diameter.

A pair of two Arequipa pottery tiles, likely dating to 1915-1917. Both squeeze-bag decorated with varying designs and mounted to the interior of a frame. Each tile is: 5.75" in height and width. Frame size: 21" ht. x 14.5" wd. Founded by Dr. Philip King Brown, Arequipa Pottery was a type of arts and crafts-style pottery produced in Marin County, California, in the United States from 1911 until 1918. The pottery produced at Arequipa was part of the rehabilitative therapy program at Dr. Brownsâs tuberculosis sanatorium for women.

Lot: 373 - 4 Ar Pottery Tiles / American Encaustic Tile Co.
All with markings and/or stamps to the back. One slightly larger abstract tile sized at 6.5" x 6.5" and three decorative tiles, one with metallic glaze component. All 6" x 6". The American Encaustic Tile Company, also called AETCO or AE (1875-to at least 1945),was founded in Zanesville, Ohio in 1875. There was also a manufacturing plant in Los Angeles that was used to make some of their products. It was one of the most distinguished American makers of household adornments, as well as one of the largest tile producers of modern times. AETCO's wares found their way into countless American houses and public buildings. AETCO provided "artistic" tiles of a very high order of design and execution for innumerable front porches, vestibules, halls, and fireplaces while, at the same time, it helped to convince Americans of the merit of tiled bathrooms and kitchens. The firm closed in 1935 and was then reopened in 1937 as the Shawnee Pottery.

Three decorative tiles in standard glaze with nice coloration, varying designs. 6" x 6" each. Another depicting a painterly scene with riders playing polo, 8.25" a 8.25".John Davies and John McDonald operated D&M Tile in Los Angeles between 1928 and 1939. D&M produced a small range of square tile sizes ranging from four to eight inches along with some circular tiles.

One with floral design, one with geometric circular tile and one Arts and Crafts brightly colored tile. Largest is 6" x 6", floral tile is 3.75" x 3.75" and round tile is 4.5" diameter. California Clay Products (CalCo) was founded around 1923 by Rufus Keeler in Southern California. The company produced architectural tile for fireplace surrounds, wall inserts, framed tile wall hangings, wainscoting, step risers, floors, countertops, fountains and more. Keeler went on to run Malibu Potteries for Rhoda May Knight Ridge in the mid 1920âs.
Lot: 376 - Group of 5 Ernest Batchelder Art Pottery Tiles
Three hexagonal tiles with deeply carved decorative designs in blue glaze, all stamped to the back. Size of each: 3.75" wd. Plus a pair of classic California craftsman tiles, Both with deeply carved design. One marked "Batchelder, Padasena 5" to the back and the other marked "Batchelder, Los Angeles" and marked with glaze "F531" and signed "AS"? One tile with leaf / floral motif; the other with plant motif surrounded by four animal figures. Both 6" x 6" Ernest Allan Batchelder, was a prominent member of the California arts community in the early 20th century. His tiles drew on many themes, including Medieval themes, Mayan and Byzantine patterns.

Four examples, 2 round ones depicting a bird's eye view flying over a crop rotation (6.25" diam), and two square tiles, one illustrating the Word's Fair Pavilion built in 1909 in St, Louis, and the last one a colorfully glazed view of a Viking ship at sea (each 5.5" x 5.5"). Likely manufactured in the 1920's.
Lot: 379 - Art Tiles by Drew Krouse & Linda Dixon (LDDK)
Four art tiles of various styles made by LDDK Pottery of Seagrove, North Carolina, including two wall-mount colorful floral examples (8" x 8"), a monochromatic three dimensional example made in 1994 depicting flowers and large urns (11" x 8"), and finally a 5-sided portrait of a female visage in yellow and green glazes (6" x 8"). Dixon and Krouse are master artisans of contemporary, architectural installations and commissioned sculptures. Their pottery tile installations can be seen from Asheboro's N.C. Zoo to New York City's Pennsylvania Station, and the Raleigh Durham International Airport.

Two dramatic wall plaques, landscape scenes in a minimalist style and muted organic colors, signed and dated on verso "Childers 1980", each 9" x 15", Childers graduated from Berea College in Kentucky in 1972. After a few years producing functional production pottery, Childers took a break in 1985, only to resume his ceramic making in 2015.
Lot: 382 - Flint Faience Art Pottery Tile Grouping
Eight production art tiles by the Flint Faience, various sizes, including an Egyption Revival tile, a YMCA emblem tile. Largest 6" x 6" and smallest 2.75" x 2.75". AC Spark Plug Company founded Flint Faience Tile Company in 1921 to create custom decorative tiles for residential and commercial buildings in their Harriet Street factory. The company had the ceramic expertise, the kilns, and talented designers, such as Julio Haro, to create the fashionable designs. In 1933, General Motors closed the tile operation.
