Lot: 13 - Important Antique Early 1800's Landscape Oil Painting in the distinct Manner of John Constable (England, 1776-1837)

Important Antique Early 1800's Landscape Oil Painting in the distinct Manner of John Constable (England, 1776-1837) With strong Kentucky ties. Extremely colorful and serene landscape with pond and wildlife and much greenery mounted in a large heavy antique gold leafed wooden frame which is original to the painting. Not signed visibly but also not removed from the frame either. This painting hung for decades in the family home of descendants of Colonel Richard M. Johnson (1780-1850) who lived just outside Georgetown in Scott County, Kentucky, and who served as Vice President of the United States under Martin Van Buren from 1837-1841. Johnson is famously credited with the personal slaying of the famed Shawnee Indian Chief Tecumseh during the War of 1812 and also famously hosted General (Marquis de) Lafayette at his home (a stately Greek Revival mansion built in 1819 named Longview) in Scott County when Lafayette visited the United States from France on his 'Farewell Tour to America' in 1824. If it could talk the stories this painting could no doubt tell. Johnson is buried in Frankfort, Kentucky at The Frankfort Cemetery which is also where Daniel Boone is buried. This painting is truly an early Kentucky Treasure. Framed it measures 28" tall by 40" wide and displays beautifully. Ready to hang and enjoy.

Lot: 23 - Famed English Racehorse ‘Molly Longlegs’ after George Stubbs

Famed English Racehorse ‘Molly Longlegs' after George Stubbs ‘Molly Longlegs' after George Stubbs (English, 1724-1806) captures the renowned early English bay mare Champion racehorse that twice won at Newmarket along with her trainer standing afore. The canvas which is laid on board features a vast landscape with hills and puffy white clouds in a truly beautiful blue sky. Molly belonged to the extremely important Bolingbroke family one of whom presumably commissioned Stubbs in 1762 for the original portrait. Stubbs is widely regarded as England's greatest Sporting Artist of all time and this portrait exemplifies in every minute detail exactly why. Truly a Masterwork. The painting is framed in a gorgeous extra large 150 year old Antique wooden gold-colored frame, enhancing even further its overall elegant look. Would definitely be the focal point of any room in which it was hung and is bound to draw tremendous admiration. The frame measures a hefty 32" tall by 36" wide and the canvas measures 16" by 20". Jockey on Racehorse Depicts a masterfully executed portrait of a (no doubt) English racehorse with Jockey up. On canvas with consistent age craquelure present it is totally stable with no losses or damage whatsoever as it has been professionally restored and newly framed in recent times in a handsome gold-tone wooden frame. We have no additional information about the horse, jockey. or artist. Perhaps one of you collectors will recognize one or the other. Appears to be faintly signed in the front lower right corner but is illegible to us. A Classic artwork just right for that special spot in one of our equine loving collector's homes. Canvas size 16" x 20" and framed it measures 20" x 24".

This lovely oil painting on canvas features a meticulously executed classically depicted Victorian Maiden standing full length in a vast landscape with arm extended toward a large white bird in flight. Presented in its original quite ornate gold leafed frame it displays truly beautifully. Painting and frame both have been recently professionally cleaned and restored. A truly evocative antique artwork ready to hang and enjoy bound to draw great admiration and offer great collector pride. It is a large vertically formatted painting which framed measures 22" wide by a hefty 39" tall.

Lot: 47 - Meek & Milam No. 3 Fishing Reel

Meek & Milam No. 3 Fishing Reel The Meek and Milam No. 3 fishing reel, likely made in the 1860's, is a notable vintage casting reel. It features a robust clicker and brake system and smooth operation. This well-preserved reel boasts clean original parts. The intricate knurling on the rim trim and the unique bread basket knurling below the handle are a beautiful characteristic of this model. It has "Forrest Letton Paris KY 1925 MFO 1868" engraved on one side. All research leads us to believe that this reel was made in the 1860's, and the 1925 on the side represents when it was given to someone as a gift. B.F. Meek and B.C. Milam started crafting high-quality fishing reels in Frankfort, Kentucky around 1852. They worked together until 1881, when they decided to part ways. After the split, both continued making reels, with Meek producing them under his name and Milam doing the same, later involving his son in the business.
