David Delamare was born in Leicester, UK, in December 1951. He moved to the Hawthorne District of Portland, Oregon, when he was small and remained within walking distance of his childhood home until his death in September 2016. During his last twenty-two years, David lived and worked with his agent and publisher, Wendy Ice. Eventually, they adopted two rabbit muses and a giant sulcata tortoise. David and Wendy were married in 2013. David began painting in childhood and was proud to have never held a "real" job. Though in the early years, he supplemented his income with creative stints such as graphic design, sign-painting, stained glass repair, art teaching, and blues guitar, he soon gave these up to become a full-time fine artist and illustrator. He worked in various media, including etching, pencil, acrylic, and gouache. But in his final years, he painted almost exclusively with oil on canvas. Delamare paintings have appeared in museums, on book and album covers, in television programs such as Marsalis on Music, and in numerous films. Eleven of the books that David illustrated were published in his lifetime. At the time of his death, he and his wife Wendy were planning several more volumes for which he had completed the artwork. These included a mermaid book, a fairy book, a figurative book, and a retrospective. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the sale. "Schnooners Running For Cover Behind Cape Henry" Lithograph by John A. Noble (1913-1983). Signed Lower Right. Numbered 289/290. Framed. Measures 25.5" tall x 20" wide. Born in Paris in 1913, John A. Noble is the son of the noted American painter, John "Wichita Bill" Noble. He spent his early years in the studios of his father and his father's contemporaries, innovative artists and writers of the early part of this century. He moved with his family to this country in 1919, a year which had great significance to him and foreshadowed his life's work. "It was the greatest wooden ship launching year in the history of the world," he wrote. From 1928 until 1945, Noble worked as a seaman on schooners and in marine salvage. In 1928, while on a schooner that was towing out down the Kill van Kull, the waterway that separates Staten Island from New Jersey, he saw the old Port Johnston coal docks for the first time. It was a sight, he later asserted, which affected him for life. Port Johnston was "the largest graveyard of wooden sailing vessels in the world." Filled with new but obsolete ships, the great coalport had become a great boneyard. In 1941, Noble began to build his floating studio there, out of parts of vessels he salvaged and from 1946 on, he worked as a full-time artist, setting off from his studio in a rowboat to explore the Harbor. These explorations resulted in a unique and exacting record of Harbor history in which its rarely documented characters, industries, and vessels are faithfully recorded. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the sale. We offer multiple shipping options please read the shipping terms to understand your options. We also offer Pick-Ups Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday immediately following the sale. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Lot: 46 - 19th Century Impressionist Oil on Canvas

19th Century Impressionist Oil on Canvas by Aloysius O'Kelly (1853-1936). Depicting Forrest with Stream. Signed Lower Right. Has minor tear upper left. Has paint loss with indentation lower right - Approx. 2" long. Needs a cleaning. Framed. Measures 34.25" tall x 28.5" wide. Irish artist Aloysius O’Kelly was an enigmatic figure, who travelled extensively throughout his career. He was among the first Irish artists to attend the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1874, and would establish his reputation in the salons of France with realist genre scenes such as Mass in a Connemara Cabin, exhibited in the 1884 Paris Salon. In the early 1880s, he worked in a journalistic capacity as a ‘Special Artist’ for British publications, covering the anti-colonial campaigns of the Irish Land Wars and the Sudanese nationalist movement. The extent of O’Kelly’s interest or involvement in politics is unclear. He had a close relationship with his brother James, an Irish nationalist politician and member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, and in 1897 the artist put himself forward for election in South Roscommon, without success. However, O’Kelly was absent during the turbulent years of the Irish revolutionary period, living primarily in Brittany and New York. In 1926 he returned to Ireland at 73 years of age, with the intention of creating a new series of paintings of Irish national monuments. His letters to his nephew in New York, James Herbert, provide a first-hand account of life in the newly independent Free State of Ireland. In particular, his descriptions of ruined public, military and residential buildings record the aftermath of the Irish Civil War and the War of Independence. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the sale. We offer multiple shipping options, please read the terms as they have changed. We also offer Pick-Ups Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday immediately following the sale. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. PLEASE READ THE NEW TERMS!!!

Lot: 47 - Oil on Board - Morris Katz

Oil on Board by Morris Katz (1932-2010). Depicting Shore Scene with Seagulls. Signed lower right. Dated 1985. Measures 27" tall x 23" wide. “Painting,” according to Morris Katz, “is like shmearing a bagel.” Katz was a genuine performance artist. His standard routine would be to line up two dozen canvases and paint them all within the span of an hour—using only a palette knife and toilet paper—all the while cracking jokes and explaining his craft to rapt audiences. Katz took this “show” annually to the Catskills, where he performed for years and where he made much of his living. Called “a self-contained vaudeville act” by New York Magazine, Katz holds a unique place in the annals of the art world as a painter who not only worked with incredible speed—whipping up paintings within just minutes—but who did so while engaging his audiences with Borscht Belt-style shtick and then auctioning the paintings off to all comers. Although none of his art reached critical acclaim, he became a minor celebrity and appeared on numerous television shows, among them those of Mike Douglas, Joe Franklin, Alan Thicke, and Rich Little, whose light mockeries he endured as part of his act. He also had his own public access show and published a book on “how to paint fast and good,” which taught the secrets of his unique style in typically jovial Katzian fashion. The Guinness World Book of Records recognized Katz for having produced and sold more original paintings than any other artist in the world, leaving Picasso in second place. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the sale. Born in New London, CT, Rabinovitch studied to be an engineer and went to fly jet planes for the military and worked with some of the top programs in the country, including RCA, NASA and General Dynamics. Not wanting to partake in violence, he objected to any job that involved bombs and weapon development. During the Cold War his decision proved to be very difficult and led him to jump from project to project. After learning to paint in 1961 at the Boston Museum School, Rabinovitch’s live would never be the same. Influenced by Jack Kerouac’s book “On The Road”, he sold his belongings, bought a VW bus and drove to Height Ashbury, CA to begin his career as a full-time artist, he later moved to Monterey and earned his MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute. After a 10-year stint in California, Marcia Tucker convinced Bill to move to Soho in 1973 for the Whitney Independent Study Program (WISP). He found an apartment on Crosby St, where he has remained and continued his career as an artist. His studios at 63 Crosby and 74 grand street placed him in the epicenter of one of the most influential parts of art history. Bill quickly became a popular artist to some of the greats. In 1977 Bill and a group of friends attacked the Whitney Biennial, creating the Whitney Counterweight. An inclusive downtown show judged by artists, for artists. Along with making large scale works on canvas, Rabinovitch was documenting the art world through his camera: capturing the Soho art seen in the 80s, 90s and 2000s, covering many icons such as Chuck Close, Damien Hirst, Julien Schnable, Nam June Paik, Lauri Anderson, Frank Stella, Richard Serra and many more. Bill has never settled with his work, constantly living in a creative process, he is always striving to evolve his process and has dedicated his life to his craft. Lithograph Entitled "Jazz Trio" by Joseph Kossonogi (1908-1981). Artist Proof. Signed lower right. Measures 24" tall x 29.5" wide. Joseph Kossonogi was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1908. After studies at the Berlin Academy of Art and advanced studies in France, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, he immigrated to Mandate Palestine and settled in Tel Aviv in 1926. There he formed the collective of young painters known as Massad. In 1929, the Massad group had its first exhibition and, in 1935, the group's members joined the Israel Association of Painters and Sculptors. Kossonogi had one-man shows at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in 1944 and 1954, in which years he was a co-recipient of the Dizengoff Prize in painting. In 1956, Kossonogi joined the Artists' Colony in Safed. In 1958, the former president of France Vincent Auriol began collecting his work. Kossonogi won the Histadrut Prize in 1966 and the Nordau Prize in 1976. He settled in Safed in 1956. Joseph Kossonogi's paintings reflect a very personal style based on lightness of touch and a dream-like element in his composition; at the same time he has retained the figurative expressionist approach. Kossonogi's favorite subjects are landscapes, interiors, women and group compositions. Colour figures strongly in Kossonogi's oeuvre. He was preoccupied with the bright sun of Eretz Israel and its effect on the lands, crops, and lives of Jewish settlers and native Arabs. Israeli art critic Gideon Ofrat writes of the artist's oeuvre: "Kossonogi launched his career with romantic watercolours rich in brown and green staining; subsequently, under the influence of Raoul Dufy, they grew lighter and focused on the poetical effects of transparency and fluidity." Kossonogi's focus on light and colour was likely inherited from the European influences that marked his formative period, notably Henri Matisse and André Derain. Along with important Israeli watercolourists Mordechai Avniel and Shimshon Holzman, Kossonogi was considered a master of the aquarelle medium. He received many awards and regularly exhibited his painting sinternationally. Many of his paintings have been acquired by museums and private collections in Israel and abroad. Oil on Board by Earl Carpenter (1931) Entitled on Back - Pink Smoke. Western Mountain Scene. Signed Lower Left - Dated 1981. Measures 34.5" tall x 58" wide. Carpenter was born in Long Beach, California and was in in the United States Air Force in the 1950s. He then enrolled at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles followed by study at the Chouinard Art Institute. Many of his paintings in those days were cloudscapes depicting the beauty he had observed flying airplanes. In 1960, he and his wife, Millie, having set out to explore the country from California, got no further than Arizona, living first in Sedona and later in Phoenix and from 1978 in Flagstaff. In Phoenix, he worked as a technical illustrator for an advertising agency and taught and sold his paintings at the Stable Art Gallery in Scottsdale. But soon he began fine art painting full time, at first in an abstract style, but he found a much wider audience for his realistic work. He began with subject matter focused on Hopi and Navajo Indians but became depressed over the poverty and living conditions of those people he observed. He decided to turn to a subject that made him feel better, and that was the Grand Canyon, which he first saw in the 1960s. He is especially challenged by trying to go beyond a photographic rendering of the Canyon to expressing his feelings of awe about it. When he tires of that subject or finds he is repeating himself, he goes to a different area including the Grand Tetons. To capture his landscapes on canvas, he first sketches in oil or watercolor and photographs the cloud formations because they change so rapidly. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the sale. Zhang's distinctive painting style has created a high demand for his works, attracting high-profile collectors such as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who now owns several of his paintings. Leonardo G. Zhang is one of the highly influential artists in Fantasy and Surrealism style paintings. Under the influence of Rembrandt and Dali, Leonardo G. Zhang has merged realism and surrealism painting styles and developed the unique style of Realistic Fantasy. His Realistic Fantasy style blurs the boundary between fantasy and reality by making fantasy extremely realistic. He believes that an artist's unique responsibility is not to simply recreate the reality, but to artistically construct an inspiring reality that is above and beyond the existing reality seen. With expressive use of rich primary colors, Leonardo G. Zhang has created an exceptional style that is visually pleasing, undeniably unique, and has tremendous universal appeal. Lot: 126 - Oil on Canvas by Sergio Cirni Bissi - Still Life

Oil on Canvas by Sergio Cirni Bissi. Depicts Still Life. Entitled "Natura Morta Con Cocomero". Signed lower right and on the Verso. Minor paint loss and minor damage to frame. Comes with Global Fine Art COA. Measures 29" tall x 36.5" wide. Bissi was a professional painter for more than five decades, bringing Italian culture to canvas. Presenting the many faces of Italy, from past to present, his art captures both ancient traditions as well as current lifestyles, allowing for numerous compositions filled with emotional impact. With his delightful and commanding impressionistic flair Bissi captures color, form and texture painting intimate scenes of the Italian people. With charm, sensitivity and grace he paints his countrymen in their natural environment, his paintings expressing their innocent lifestyle, unaffected and unspoiled by modern industrialism. Reminiscent of the Post –Impressionist Italian painters, Bissi shows the technique of Divisionism in his art. Separate strokes of color are placed side by side, contrasting and illuminating the individual and inherent brilliance of each pure tone. To the novice his brushwork appears random in its placement, but this illusion of disorder is merely a classic example of Impressionism at its finest. When viewed from a distance each composition comes to life, clear, forthright and visually appealing. No hard edges or lines can be seen in his art. Every stroke is freely placed on the canvas, light and delicate, swiftly applied thereby resulting in a series of interacting blushed tones. Yellows, reds, blues, golds, greens and more, meld and polarize. . .creating dazzling scenes that make his style both unique and inimitable. Bissi’s art is saturated with color, gifts of loveliness to the eye. Interestingly, before Bissi became a professional painter he was an internationally renowned actor of Vaudeville Theatre. He traveled half the world from Oslo to Capetown, from Berlin to London, down into France and Spain. These exciting years opened his eyes to the beauty of European culture and the fascinating terrain found around each city and town. These memories are now recalled artistically transformed onto canvas in intimate and spontaneous scenes. Bissi has exhibited throughout Italy and his works can be found in private collections in France, England, America and South America. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the sale. We offer multiple shipping options please read the shipping terms to understand your options. We also offer Pick-Ups Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Monday immediately following the sale.
