Lot: 76 - 1979 Dunstall/Suzuki GS1000 Competition Special

1979 Dunstall/Suzuki GS1000 Competition Special Odometer shows 23870 miles. The carbs were rebuilt by Rob at Cycle Re Cycle Part II in Indianapolis is summer 2023. The bike has been sitting since last summer, will likely need carbs gone through again, a new battery, and tune up. Bike likes to jump into gear after putting it in neutral and rolling it. The plastic windshield was taken off the bike and sent to Gustaffson Plastics in Saint Augistine, Fl. for a custom-made replacement. Replacement windshield will need to be mounted. Needs rear brake work. Tank could use a good cleaning. Has developed a fuel leak from carb #3 and what appears to be a bit of seepage on the underside of the tank. The choke lever up by the gauges is jammed, but the choke itself on the carbs works. Original Dunstall tag riveted to the frame, along with a sticker from Orca Imports. Additionally it has the original dealership sticker from Taunton Kawasaki Centre in England. This bike is a gem, only approximately 200 Dunstall kits were produced for the GS1000. 1979 was the first year the Dunstall GS1000 was produced, and the Dunstall tag riveted to the frame indicates that it came with the fairing and performance upgrades from factory. Many of them for 1980 and 1981 models with a single headlight. This one has two headlights and is very unique. Definitely a project bike, but an incredible candidate for a solid restoration. New fuel filter, 6/23/2023 $4.80 Set of new hose clamps, 6/23/2023 $4.27 Rust remover, 6/23/2023 $27.54 Shipping for sending windshield to Gustaffson Plastics for replacement, 6/19/2023 $56.55 Replacement windshield from Gustaffson Plastics, $286.00 New battery, 6/6/2023 $67.95 New hose clamps for pod filters, 6/26/2023 $19.22 VIN# S100144609

C. W. Mundy California, Indiana, (B. 1945) George McGinnis oil on canvas Signed lower left. Biography from the Archives of askART: A plein-air painter, CW Mundy worked for twenty-two years as a sports illustrator and in the late 1980s became a full-time painter of landscapes, still life, and figurative works. Among the artists he credits as inspiring to him are John Singer Sargent, Edgar Payne, and Guy Rose. He grew up and continues to live in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was raised as a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and won a college basketball scholarship, eventually graduating from Ball State University in Muncie. He then headed to California, and with friends, formed a five-piece band called the Tarzan Swing Band in which he played guitar and banjo. They played all over the United States and were ready to make recordings when one of the members became seriously ill, and they disbanded. At that point, he shifted gears to his art talents and traveled throughout California and Mexico before returning to Indianapolis in 1978. Full of energy, he developed a plan that combined his interest in art with sports and created photo realistic depictions of sports figures. In the early 1980s, he became the official illustrator for Bob Knight, legendary basketball coach at Indiana University, and he also had contracts for illustration with the Pro Golfers Association, the United States Golf Association, and the National Basketball Association. From those years, his artwork is in many collections including the Indianapolis 500 Museum. However, he tired of this activity, finding it to be formula painting and less-than-challenging because it lacked spirit. So in 1994, he enrolled in workshops taught by established artists such as Scott Christensen and Dan Gerhartz, and their encouragement and examples freed his own creativity, especially for plein-air painting. After several of these workshops, he and his wife Rebecca went to France, and since then they have traveled extensively including to East Coast locations such as Gloucester and Rockport as well as back to Europe. In 1998, they went to the Rocky Mountains to "recharge his battery" and get distant, panoramic views. Many of his previous works had been small--six to eight inches--but here he did larger canvases, some of them with dimensions of four feet or bigger. In 2003 CW Mundy earned the status of Master Signature Member from the Oil Painters of America. In 2005 Mundy was earned the Award of Excellence for Master Signature Members at the 14th Annual Oil Painters of America National Show. Source: Southwest Art, July 2005

Biography from BeatlesCartoonArtShow: Born in 1939 in Seymore, a small town in the Australian state of Victoria, educated at Swinburne Art Institute in Melbourne, Ron Campbell was a force in animation for five decades. Campbell began his animation career in the late fifties, soon working on Beetle Bailey, Krazy Kat, and Cool McCool, directing the spectacularly successful TV cartoon series The Beatles. The show debuted on 25 September 1965, and remained number one in the ratings for the duration of its four-year run. He later wrote the forward to the book Beatletoons: The Real Story Behind The Cartoon Beatles, where his involvement in the show is also talked about extensively. He then moved to the United States and Hanna-Barbera, going on to write and produce cartoons for Sesame Street and animate on the original George of the Jungle and Tom Slick TV shows. His Hollywood studio, Ron Campbell Films, Inc., produced and directed the animation for the Big Blue Marble, which won many awards including a Peabody for Excellence in Broadcasting and an Emmy for Best Children's Show of the Year. In the late 60's Ron Campbell, working with his friend and colleague Duane Crowther (RIP), animated many scenes in the Beatles Yellow Submarine feature film, including the Sea of Time sequence, and much of the action between the Chief Blue Meanie and his boot-licking sidekick, Max.He animated many scenes involving the multi-named Jeremy Hillary Boob PHD aka the Nowhere Man. Real Monsters, and another for the Rugrats. Since retiring after a 50-year career, Ron began painting subjects always based on the animated cartoons he has helped bring to the screen. With particular emphasis on The Beatles, his Cartoon Pop Art has been showcased in galleries internationally and across the USA.

When Brenner arrived in America, he had little more to fall back upon except the trade taught to him by his father — gem and seal engraving. This technical preparation included the tools of the sculptor's craft. He took night classes at Cooper Union. Brenner soon mastered English as he had mastered French. Eight years later Brenner was in Paris, studying with the great French medalist Oscar Roty at the Académie Julian. There he exhibited his work and obtained awards at the Paris Exposition of 1900. He returned to the United States, and from that time on his career prospered. He appeared to be on his way to the fulfillment of the splendid predictions made for his future by Rodin. Lot: 346 - Albert Gilles, French (1895 - 1979), Messieurs Les Jures, copper bas relief wall plaque, 20"H x 35 1/4"W (sight), 23 1/2"H x 39"W (frame)

Albert Gilles French, (1895 - 1979) Messieurs Les Jures copper bas relief wall plaque Signed lower right. Biography from CommunityStories.CA: After 15 years, Albert Gilles was about to put the finishing touches on a colossal work consisting of 50 tableaus depicting the life of Christ, each one meticulously embossed by hand. It was a true labour of love, as Gilles carefully traced each design on a sheet of copper, brass, or silver. Christorama came about as the result of an order that fell through but that Albert Gilles continued to work on in his spare time. The piece is a reflection of his long career and dedication to his art. It all began in his native country of France. At the age of 12, his aunt taught him the art of "repoussé" (embossing). After starting out as an interior designer, he eventually transformed his pastime into a flourishing career. In 1929, Gilles moved to the United States, where he was commissioned to decorate public buildings and private homes alike. He also worked for a number of film studios in Hollywood. Although he was in high demand, he still found time to decorate the homes of several celebrities, including Constance Bennett, Mae West, and Roy and Walt Disney. Albert Gilles settled permanently in Québec in 1937, where he devoted himself to the decoration of churches. In the space of 20 years, he worked on more than 30 churches, including the cathedrals in Valleyfield and Moncton. The Côte-de-Beaupré region also bears his mark, notably with the tabernacle of the main altar at the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Basilica and the altar rails in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Blessed Sacrament chapels, and with the later addition of three remarkable copper doors. Realizing the advantage of being close to the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Shrine, in 1953 Albert Gilles decided to settle for good in Château-Richer. He built a workshop there on Boulevard Sainte-Anne, where he created, displayed, and sold his work. The artist also passed down his passion for the art of embossing to his children, who took over the family business and continue to work hard to keep this dying art alive.
