Lot: 1 - Ali Talib

(Iraq, Born 1944) Oil on canvas signed lower left. Fishing boats in canal setting at dusk. Brilliantly rendered using pallet knife and brush. Framed nicely. Good condition throughout. H29 1/2" W38 1/2" (without frame) Sold from the collection of an Aiken, South Carolina gentleman.

Lot: 2 - Charles Bargue

(France, 1825-1883) Oil on canvas work titled, "The Arab Smoker." Exceptionally rendered Orientalist piece signed lower mid right. The work is in original unrestored condition with only a very small tear near the elbow of the subjects measuring 1". The work has not been re lined or cleaned. Bargue, aside from being the incredibly accomplished and talented painter that he was, is also known for his connection to Vinceent Van Gogh. Van Gogh trained himself to draw by repeated study and work with the Charles Bargue Drawing Course which then was mail order in France. There is a nearly identical, yet smaller, work in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum that is possibly a study for this work. Canvas Size: H17 1/2" W11 3/8" (without frame) We are honored to offer this work on behalf of a surviving member of the Hill family of Aiken. Excellent discovery from a collection in one of South Carolina's most iconic towns.

Lot: 11 - Southern Stoneware Edgefield District Storage Jar

Circa 1850. Attributed to David Drake working at Stoney Bluff. The jar has excellent form with nice high handles on an ovoid body with a rich alkaline glaze. One small chip to the rim 1 1/2" long otherwise this jar is in excellent condition. H13 1/4" W13" This jar was recently discovered within an outbuilding of Cathlene Hudson’s farm in Kershaw County South Carolina. This jar was used by the family in daily life more than likely descended through the family. The Hudsons are an African American family here in the Midlands of South Carolina. We are honored to offer this jar on behalf of their family.

Lot: 11B - Rare Edgefield District, SC Southern Stoneware Cup

Circa 1830, likely Pottersville, South Carolina or Columbia, South Carolina Landrum family. Excellent cup having a well formed handle with tall placement leading to the body with ovoid squat body with flared foot and rim. The center of the body has three incised lines at the center. The alkaline glazed body has a nice honey tone with some slight tones of iron bleed or spotting. The piece has no restoration and is in nice condition. The top edge has a very early tight hairline 3/4" into the upper body in three areas. These are possibly firing flaws as the glaze skips this portion of the rim. Near the base of the handle there is also a very tight hairline also very early and a possible firing flaw. H3 3/8" W4 3/4"

Lot: 12 - Handsome Southern Stoneware Edgefield Storage Jar

Circa 1870, likely G.P. Seagler Operation. Excellent form and rich glaze with nicely placed handles on the ovoid body and with 2 incised at the upper shoulder. The jar has only minor nicks to the rim and a very small pinhole at the back side, otherwise excellent condition. H11 1/4" W10" Sold from the collection of Edgefield Scholar J.W. Joseph of Aiken, South Carolina.

Lot: 13 - Southern Stoneware Edgefield District Storage Jar

Circa 1845, possibly by Isaac Durham. The jar has a well potted body with tooled rim over precisely placed handles on ovoid form. The glaze has orange spots in the green alkaline around the body. Good condition no restorations no cracks no chips. H13" W11 1/2"

Circa 1870, Landrum/Stork Pottery Operation. Well formed jug having a tooled spout with pulled and applied strap handle on slightly ovoid body. Nice alkaline glaze with iron bleeds. One tight hairline at mid body otherwise nice overall condition. H10 1/2"

Lot: 16 - Rare Bound Copy of The Edgefield Hive News Paper

Discovered by Steven and Terry Ferrell. This copy dates to 1830 and is Volume 1 No. 1-52. This copy is one of less than five known copies surviving of Abner Landrums famous hive News Paper. David Drake is said to have likely learned to read and write by helping set the type press for this very publication as he worked with Abner. It is possible that David himself helped to set the press for this very copy. Tremendously rare example of South Carolina and Edgefield District South Carolina history we are thrilled to have the opportunity to present to you today on behalf of Steven Ferrell. H10 3/4" W9"

Lot: 20 - Southern Stoneware Washington Co GA Stew Pot

Circa 1850, Washington Country, Georgia. Having cursive S mark at the upper shoulder with a nicely tooled rim over ovoid body and strap handle configuration. The piece is missing one handle. There is a chip to the rim alongside a hairline at the rim and there is another hairline near the base spanning across the bottom. No restoration in as found original condition. Circa 1900, likely Western United States or Mexico. Brilliantly formed vessel having thunderbird handles with face at center on an ovoid body with flared rim. The rim having a small portion glued back but all is original. H28 1/2" W15"

Circa 1870, likely by Thomas Richie. Well potted jug having a double ring spout with very nicely applied handle on ovoid body and incised 2 at upper shoulder. Very small nick to the spout otherwise good overall condition. H13"

Lot: 24 - Interesting Southern Stoneware Alkaline Glazed Jug

Possibly Edgefield, South Carolina Miles Mill site or Baynham. The jug has an unusual straight neck spout with a nicely placed handle on cylinder body. The handle favors those found at this site and the rich glaze as well. No repairs or cracks detected. H8 1/2" W7 1/4" Sold from the collection of a Charlotte, North Carolina lady.

Lot: 25 - Large Antique German Stoneware Watercooler

19th century. Large lidded and sculpted salt glazed example having brilliant form with double handled configuration and at lower body the water spout.
