Lot: 5000 - 1965 HARLEY DAVIDSON SCAT BTH 175CC MOTORCYCLE

1965 Harley Davidson Scat BTH 175cc Motorcycle. This ultra-cool 1965 Harley-Davidson Scat BTH looks amazing in a simple black paint scheme with white accents, and with its black solo saddle it looks like a two-wheeled personification of Fonzie’s nephew Spike. That’s apropos, as for a young or new rider, a 175cc Harley-Davidson was about as cool a motorcycle as you could learn on in 1965; no Japanese or European lightweight even came close to its super cool street scrambler style. Despite Harley-Davidson owning Italian brand Aermacchi from 1960, as well as its production of Sprints and other small bikes, the Milwaukee Motor Co. still loved the simplicity of its Hummer engine as the basis for light and simple two-stroke bikes. By 1961, the original 125cc engine had been enlarged to 165cc, and finally, with the Pacer roadster and the Scat street scrambler, Harley-Davidson built a 175cc version of the engine. Introduced in 1962, the Scat used an interesting mix of styling cues with the small “sportsterish” tank (in ads called the “family resemblance”), bobbed big-bike rear fender adapted to the smaller machine, high front fender and high-level exhaust. In 1963, Harley-Davidson introduced the Pacer with a pressed-steel, L-shaped, lever swingarm using shocks mounted low beneath the engine, and the Scat gained the Pacer frame that year. The styling looked a bit like a custom bike, which gave it an extra cool cache. While they are rare today, Harley-Davidson built nearly 32,000 small two-stroke singles since 1947 and the original Hummer. These small singles are unsung heroes, as tens of thousands of riders got their start on them. This black and white 1965 BTH Scat is one of 1,250 produced that year, and it’s a terrific little machine with a uniquely American style. 1965 Miles: 000004 VIN: 65BTH1279 Keywords: Automobile/Vehicles; Ref: BD2022

Lot: 5003 - 1962 AUSTIN ENTERPRISES MODERNIST ALUMINUM CHESS SET

1962 Austin Enterprises Modernist Aluminum Chess Set. (Aluminum Company of America). In 1962, the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) launched a marketing program to advance the selling of their aluminum products. The game of chess was chosen for this campaign as it is associated with intelligence and problem solving. The collaboration between design and marketing, emerged a beautiful, modernistic, abstract chess set designed by Austin E. Cox A.S.I.D. of “Austin Enterprises” and the advertising agency of Ketchum, McLeod & Grove. ALCOA had these sets produced to give to their top customers. This was a fittingly strategic move, since the companies ALCOA currently serviced, or wished to do business with, could proudly display the set with, its ALCOA DNA, in their offices. Features 32 pieces that were cut from aluminum bars; the white army appearing in a natural aluminum finish, with the black army differentiated by black anodized sides with natural aluminum faces. The pieces range in size from 4 7/8in for the King down to 3in for the pawns. The pieces are strikingly abstract in form. The Queen is represented by a crown, the Bishop by a simple cross, the Knight is a shield and the King is, fittingly, the symbol of ALCOA. Stamped Signed with impressed manufacturer’s mark to underside of each piece: (1962 Austin Enterprises). Lot: 5005 - VINTAGE HASSELBLAD 500C 80MM F/2.8 MEDIUM FORMAT FILM CAMERA

Vintage Hasselblad 500c 80mm f/2.8 Medium Format Film Camera. The Hasselblad 500 series began with the revolutionary 500C, one of the most iconic cameras in photographic history. Modified throughout the years, the 500 series cameras represent the pinnacle of Victor Hasselblad's V System. With multiple prototypes in the works in 1953, the final Hasselblad 500C was launched in 1957. Replacing the previous design of a focal plane shutter from the 1000F, the 500C utilized a leaf shutter design with its range of high-quality Carl Zeiss lenses. The 500C was a marvel that still remains a classic in today’s modern age. Its leaf shutter design allowed for flash synchronization at all shutter speeds with the use of electronic flash. It could also focus at full aperture thanks to an automatic aperture stop-down. The build of the 500C was uncomplicated, and with the shutter in the lens instead of the camera body, this allowed for interchangeable lenses, film magazines, and viewfinders. Lot: 5016 - 1965 HARLEY DAVIDSON PACER BT 175CC MOTORCYCLE

1965 Harley Davidson Pacer BT 175cc Motorcycle. The Pacer was the street-styled sibling of the Scat street scrambler, and both models were an evolution of the original Hummer model of 1947. The Hummer was based on the 1930s DKW RT125, a simple piston-port, single-cylinder, two-stroke machine with a 3-speed gearbox in a unit-construction crankcase. DKW was once the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, and it specialized in two-strokes for road and racing. The DKW/Hummer engine was very simple and reliable, and it came with good performance. The gift of the design to Harley-Davidson was part of a war reparations package. While the Hummer was originally a 125cc machine, Harley-Davidson had enlarged the engine to 175cc by 1962 with the Scat and Pacer models, using a 6.6:1 compression ratio for 10 HP and an approximate 60 MPH top speed. The Pacer weighed only 216 pounds, and it was easy to start, making it a very easy machine to ride. The original Hummer was modeled as a miniature Sportster, and the Pacer followed suit, but with a new, extra-light frame using a pressed-steel, L-shaped, lever swingarm with underslung/invisible shocks beneath the engine. The backbone and seat/fender mount area of the frame was pressed steel, while the front downtube was steel tubing. The Pacer’s mix of styling cues included a miniaturized Sportster gas tank that the factory called a “family resemblance” in catalogs, a pair of Sportster-style fenders and a low-level exhaust with a black muffler. With its solo saddle and black paint with white accents, this Pacer BT certainly evokes the best of the Sportster era on a miniature scale. 1965 Miles: 9516 VIN: 65BT1587 Keywords: Automobile/Vehicles; Ref: BD2022

Lot: 5030 - 1960 HARLEY DAVIDSON SUPER 10 BT 165CC MOTORCYCLE

1960 Harley Davidson Super 10 BT 165cc Motorcycle. When this beautiful Harley-Davidson Super 10 arrived in 1960, the “neat and nimble” lightweight motorcycle had proven itself a solid and inexpensive investment for the brand. 1 of 2,169 BTs produced for 1960. The company’s line of Big Twin cruisers and 45 CI middleweight workhorses were, without doubt, the company’s bread and butter. Still, the little two-stroke singles that began rolling out of Milwaukee in 1948 had helped capture a crucial new generation of riders. For the most part, Harley-Davidson had enjoyed the American marketplace to itself with the demise of longtime rival Indian in 1953. However, new competition from abroad was beginning to stake their claims in the U.S., and the role that Harley-Davidson’s lightweight models were playing was of increasing importance. With a fresh vision of what the motorcycle could be in America, Honda’s Kihachiro Kawashima set up the company’s first outpost in Los Angeles in the summer of 1959. Though Honda sales in 1960 barely cracked 1,000 machines, by 1962, when the “nicest people” ad campaign debuted, the Japanese manufacturer was moving more than 40,000 a year. The Super 10 represented a foothold on a new frontline in the industry. With its no-fuss, 165cc two-stroke engine, 3-speed, foot-shifted gearbox and demure stature, the Super 10 appealed to the entry-level rider, full-efficient commuter and non-motorcyclist intimidated by Harley-Davidson’s bulky line of larger motorcycles. The Super 10 was a consolidation of two previous generations: the 165 and the stripped-down Hummer. The Milwaukee Motor Co. combined the features of the 165 with the larger-displacement 165cc engine of the Hummer to make the Super 10 for 1960 and 1961. 1960 Miles: 19183 VIN: 60BT2010 Keywords: Automobile/Vehicles; Ref: BD2022

Lot: 5050 - 1963 HARLEY DAVIDSON PACER BT 175CC MOTORCYCLE

1963 Harley Davidson Pacer BT 175cc Motorcycle. 1963 Miles: 11372 VIN: 63BT3230 Keywords: Automobile/Vehicles; Ref: BD2022

Vtg Leica IIf Rangefinder 35mm Film Camera w/ Summitar 5cm f/2 lens. Leica IIf is a 35mm film interchangeable lens rangefinder camera, manufactured by Ernst Leitz Wetzlar, former West Germany and produced between 1951-56. The name Leica comes from Lei-tz ca-mera. This model is a Leica IIIf body without the slow-speed button. The early model Leica IIc was replaced in 1951 by the IIf with minor differences. There are many variants such as Black dial (1951-54) [1], red dial 1/500, red dial 1/1000 (1951-56), Betriebsk or Betriebskamera engraved that worker cameras used by Leitz employees and Eigentum property company cameras. All Black dial cameras have the old type shutter speeds of 1/20, 1/30,1/40... The firm Ernst Leitz in Wetzlar, Germany began as an Optical Institute under the direction of Carl Kellner in 1849. In 1863 Ernst Leitz joined the institute and later Leitz became the sole owner of the now renamed company, E Leitz, Wetzlar. An employee at Leitz, Oscar Barnack, began experimenting, for his own use, on a pocket size camera. From two or possibly three prototypes built between 1914 and 1923 came the idea of mass producing a 35mm camera. In 1924, 30 hand built "Null series" cameras were distributed to famous photographers and other photographic experts to gauge their reaction to this "small negative, large picture" concept. So, the Leica was born. Leica cameras are by far the most collected camera ever. There are an infinite variety of both screw mount, and later, bayonet mount models and variations of models to choose from. It would be fair to say that few collectors will ever have the luck or the money to collect all the different models. Keywords: Photography; Ref: BD1740

Lot: 5228 - VINTAGE ZEISS IKON IDEAL 250/7 FOLDING 9X12 PLATE FILM

Vintage Zeiss Ikon Ideal 250/7 Folding 9x12 Plate Film Camera. Includes a 135mm f4.5mm lens. Zeiss Ikon had quite a number of different models of plate cameras to choose from after the merger as most of the pre-Zeiss Ikon companies had several. Most of the early offerings were remaindering out of pre-merger unsold stock. Only a few of the folding plate models lasted much past 1930. Ica's Ideal was one of those that did. The Ideal was available as 250/3 (6.5 x 9cm), 250/7 (9 x 12cm), 250/9 (10 x 15cm) and 250/11 (13 x 18cm). All but the smallest size have interchangeable lenses mounted with a bayonet. They all use special pop off backs, and most have double extension bellows, rise and fall, and shift movements. A few had drop beds for use with wide angle lenses. They are found with Tessar, Dominar and Double Protar lenses in Compur shutters. The Ideal line was discontinued in 1938, as with many others as Germany was gearing up for war and resources were becoming scarce. Zeiss did not re-enter the cut film camera market after the war. The Ideal was also offered in two stereo formats, 6 x 13cm and 9 x 18cm. They are normally found with Tessar lenses in dial set Compur shutters, but occasionally they can be found with Hekla lenses. The Stereo Ideal was most likely another camera that was not really produced by Zeiss Ikon, but was merely existing stock that was marked after the merger and was remaindered out. Lot: 5229 - 1958 LEICA M2 RANGEFINDER 35MM FILM CAMERA WITH SUMMARON 3.5CM F/3.5 LENS

1958 Leica M2 Rangefinder 35mm Film Camera with Summaron 3.5cm f/3.5 Lens. The Leica M2 is a 35 mm rangefinder camera by Ernst Leitz GmbH of Wetzlar, Germany, introduced in 1957. Around 82,000 M2s were produced between 1957 and 1968. Around 1500 M2s were produced by Ernst Leitz Canada, but most of these are not marked as such on the top plate. The M2 was considered to be a more affordable, simplified version of the 1954 Leica M3. Notably, the frame counter of the M2 was composed of a disk plate beneath the film advance lever that had to be manually reset to zero after reloading. This system was close to that of the Leica III series, and unlike that of the M3, which is an independent frame counter, visible through a window in the top plate, that automatically resets to zero when the film take-up spool is removed. The rangefinder system was also simplified from that of the M3 and this made it potentially more prone to rangefinder flare. The M2 has a rangefinder with a 0.72 magnification and framelines for 35, 50 and 90mm lenses instead of the 0.91 magnification and 50, 90 and 135mm framelines of the M3. This made it better suited for photojournalists who favour shorter lenses or for spectacle-wearers using a 50mm lens who sometimes find it difficult to see the framelines on the M3. The ground glass frameline illumination window of the M3 was replaced with a fresnel-type plastic lens. Finally, the ornate beveling around the various windows on the front of the M3 were flattened on the body of the M2. Unlike the M3, the widest framelines were not always visible so only one set of framelines were ever displayed at one time. All M2s are single stroke advance. The M2 was followed by the still simpler Leica M1 and then the Leica M4, which used a similar rangefinder design but re-introduced the M3 style frame counter and added a faster loading system and a canted rewind lever. On the present-day used market the M2, originally intended to be more "affordable", sells at prices only slightly lower than the M3. Both cameras are made to a similar level of quality, and the M2's framelines have proved to be more versatile over time, with all subsequent Leica rangefinder models having 35mm framelines included.
