Lot: 200 - A GORHAM MARTELE ART NOUVEAU SILVER WATER PITCHER

The shapely form with high arching handle and gracefully undulating rim washed in gold is chased with repousse iris flowers on stylized stems rising from the four organic pod-like corners of the integral base. The base is stamped Martele with Lion, Anchor and letter G hallmarks over the silver standard designation of 950-1000 FINE. The base also bears the hand engraved dedication QUEENE FERRY JUNE 8TH 1901. A suffragette, philanthropist, advocate of early childhood education, and supporter of the arts named Queene Ferry was married in 1901 to a man named Avery Coonley. Around 1910, Queene and Avery Coonley, both heirs of large fortunes, commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to build the landmark Avery Coonley House and two other structures on their estate near Chicago, Illinois. Gorham company records confirm that Martele .950 silver pitcher 3806 entered production on Oct. 17 1900, size: 9-3/8, weight 45.15, making time: 44, maker: Frederick Bower; chasing time: 58, net $180.00. Lot: 201 - A FINE PAUL STORR OVAL SILVER TUREEN. LONDON 1814

The partially lobed body with scroll and acanthus supports raised on pad feet, reeded handles with detailed lion's head mounts, gadroon shell and leaf border at the rim, the lobed and double-domed lid is surmounted with a cast silver eagle family crest having crown neck collar, most likely a special order commission. The specially commissioned cast family crest handle conforms with the engraved crests elsewhere on the tureen and cover. Measures 12.5 x 18 x 11 inches. Weighs approximately 157.85 ozt. The circular tray with undulating rim is chased in repousse flower heads interspersed with random uniquely formed cabochons and embellished with a short raised rim at the four points of the compass, The central dished area with four diagonally positioned lobes is centered by a monogram sculpted in relief amid patterns of spot hammering. The back side is stamped with the Gorham Martele mark, numerals 9584 letters H X N and the size designation 14In. The graceful boat form with gilt interior, applied rococo swirls at the rim and stippled C-scroll handle is raised on C-scroll feet with beading and acanthus accents. Each side bears an applied rococo cartouche, one centered by the letter S. Stamped hallmarks include that of the famous maker Sazikov, one of a handful of silversmiths chosen to supply the Russian Imperial family. Stamped markings include the maker's name in cyrillic, the Imperial Warrant double-headed eagle hallmark, town mark of St. Petersburg, 84 standard designation and assay mark of Ivan Evstigneev 1874. The pair of Victorian cut crystal figural parrot bottles are comprised of cut and etched crystal bodies embellished by sterling silver mounts bearing the stamped hallmark of William Leuchars along with London date stamp for 1882. The tail of each bears the pre-1885 English registry mark on its underside. Each hinged bird's head is set with two fused red glass eyes having black centers. Measures 3.25 x 6 x 1.5 inches. The pine case constructed from a single plank having three bentwood corners, and one joined corner, is fitted with a cedar base joined by wood pegs, the cedar cover has a nicely chiseled hollow-carved interior, the case sides are carved in relief and painted in traditional Kwakwaka'wakw motifs, the base is signed and titled by the maker from Vancouver, British Columbia. Lot: 284 - A RUSSIAN SILVER SPICE TOWER, ST. PETERSBURG 1884

The obelisk form topped by orb and spire with figural lions also suspends a figural bird on swing over the spice compartment having a hinged door and engraved details. The base with four figural grape feet and waisted stem was originally surrounded by five bells suspended from the base of the spice compartment. Only three of the bells remain. The base bears an illegible maker's stamp along with the Russian silver standard mark 84, assayer's mark (and the year 1884) and an unclear city stamp attributed as being that of St. Petersburg.
