Castaing, a source of endless inspiration for Lippes, famously created spaces that were fanciful, yet livable and comfortable. This settee has been featured in numerous print and online articles on Lippes' iconic Brooklyn Heights residence, including Architectural Digest, and also in seen in the background of his fashion shows held at his home.

(weighable silver) Provenance: The Collection of Adam Lippes. Notes: Simon Tissot-Dupont founded his leather case workshop in 1872, after his earlier carriage-making enterprise was destroyed in a fire. His briefcases were the favorites of businessmen and diplomats, and in 1884 he became a supplier for the famous Grands Magasins du Louvre. He retired in 1919 and was succeeded by his sons Andre and Lucien Tissot-Dupont. They oversaw a staff of over 250 leather workers, silversmiths, woodworkers, engravers, lacquerers, glass makers and locksmiths to produce trunks, luggage and travel cases for the wealthy elite. In 1929, Lucien Tissot-Dupont traveled to New York, where he was engaged by Cartier to supply cases for their 5th Avenue shop. His visit was marred by the stock market crash and the advent of the Great Depression. Undeterred - and quite boldly - Lucien decided to move farther upscale and cater exclusively to those unaffected by the crash. (He is quoted as saying: "Make it more beautiful. Make it expensive. Make it innovative.") Clientele of Les Fils de S.T. Dupont included the Princess (later Queen) Elizabeth, Aga Khan III, Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn. In 1941, he designed a pocket petrol lighter for a travel case for the Maharajah of Patiala, which was perfected and patented in 1952: the Ligne 1 was a spectacular success, supplied to Dunhill, Cartier, Hermes and others. Their famous luxury pen was designed specifically for Jackie Kennedy to accompany their Ligne 1 lighter. The company, still a premier producer of leather goods, lighters and pens, will celebrate their 150th anniversary in 2022.
