Lorillard's Tobacco advertising trade card featuring portraits of the Detroit Wolverines of the National League, including Hall of Famers Dan Brouthers, Ned Hanlon, "Big Sam" Thompson, and Deacon White. Each of the eleven team members appears in a small circle with his name and position alongside, and the images are surrounding a baseball diamond and advertising for Lorillard's Splendid Plug Tobacco. The trade card was designed to advertise the team's official schedule for the 1886 season on the reverse, along with additional advertising for Lorillard's "Splendid" brand tobacco. 5 1/2 x 4 inches

In addition to his involvement in the patent medicine business, Ayer is better known for his work in the textile industry. After buying the Tremont and Suffolk mills in Lowell, Massachusetts, he bought up many textile operations in nearby Lawrence, combining them in 1899 into the American Woolen Company, of which he was the first president.
