49 - GEORGE III ENGLISH SILVER WINE FUNNEL Georgian sterling silver wine funnel in two parts. The filter with floral shaped pierced holes. London, 1788. Maker's mark partially obscured. 105g H. 16.5 cm (6 1/2 in.)

50 - GROUP OF SILVER & SILVERPLATED FIGURES Including a Mexican silver fish bottle opener (marked 925), a silvered resting bull, two silver string instruments (one snuff box), a Dutch windmill, and two place card or menu holders of standing figures of a man gesturing with a bouquet (hallmarks on the stands). 241g weighable silver Condition to one of the stands for the figure of a gentleman with a bouquet.

52 - TWO CONTINENTAL SILVER BOWLS Comprising one Swedish silver bowl, stamped Borgila, Stockholm, 1949, along with Sterling marked on the bottom, the National Control Mark of the triple crowns, and the mark of .800 minimum. Together with an early 20th C German silver bowl with gilded interior and a glass insert. 330 - KUBA BWOOM TRIBAL HELMET MASK From the Kuba peoples of the Kasai region, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Wood, cowrie shells, seeds, beads, leather, pigment, hair and various materials. The Kuba are known for their fondness of geometric forms, and are famous for their highly detailed and abstract textile designs. This piece is an example of a royal mask, of which there are four types: mooshambwooy, bwoom, nshonoshambwooy and mbelepey. These mask figures are known conceptually as mbeyanyin (friends of the king). Each mask would have a personalized name and was introduced to the king in an elaborate, long-lasting ceremony. These masks were also used in public rituals to celebrate initiations or to reflect mythologies related to the origin of the region. Mitsogo masks are characterized by a small triangular nose, large M shaped eyebrows, and overall white pigment, all of which are present in this mask. Existing literature suggests that the depiction of the Janus face in African art may relate to the existence of legal pluralism within Sub-Saharan regional societies. Bochio figures were created in secrecy for personal reasons, therefore it is difficult to determine the intended purpose of any given work. Typically the materials may offer clues - here the figure is shown rising from an iron staff, with large eyes resembling coffee beans and wearing a cap-like striated coiffure. The body of the figure is draped in layers and is complete with an asen altar staff, glass amulets, shells, cloth and twine.
