SPECIAL NOTE:  Items featured in this auction have been consigned by a number of local Bucks County residents with some interesting and long time historical ties to the area.  Included among these consignors are Mr. & Mrs. Norval Reece, who have recently relocated from their home in Yardley, PA., and are selling one of the more interesting and important items in the auction which is a Mid 20th C modern Minguren I Coffee Table in American black walnut attributed to George Nakashima, Woodworker, S.A., New Hope, PA.  This table was purchased by Mr. & Mrs. Reece at a benefit auction some time ago and is accompanied by a letter and standard waiver form from the Nakashima Studio signed by Mira Nakashima.  
Mr. Reece is well known with an interesting and varied career as a Civil Rights Activist and later held prominent positions in both the public and private sectors.  During the 1970's he served as a Special Assistant and Secretary of Commerce in Pennsylvania under Governor Milton J. Shapp.   Later he was President & CEO of Reece Communications involved in cable television development. Other items in the auction from Mr. & Mrs. Reece's collection are some silver and crystal mementos from the time of his service under Governor Shapp including some Bicentennial items and an 18K gold pendant/medal from a meeting of the National Governors Association.  Additional items of interest from the Reece home are a signed Sarah Churchill lithograph, a paint decorated rocking horse and a very nice French brass crystal regulator clock.

Another consignor, a long time resident of Newtown, PA, will be selling two interesting paintings done by prominent local artists, R. John Foster and Katharine Steele Renninger.  The Foster painting is an oil on canvas of a scene of an old stone home in Newtown; the Renninger piece is an oil on board casein interior scene marked Center Bridge, PA.  Also included in this collection are some pieces of 18th & 19th century furniture and accessories with local family provenance.

A third consignor, who is also relocating with long time ties to the Newtown area, has included an interesting antique Mira music box together with 24 metal record discs.  This machine is a floor model with a decorated mahogany case and plays beautifully.  Additionally, they have included a fine set of Towle sterling silver flatware-French Provincial pattern which includes a service for 12 and numerous serving pieces (not monogrammed).

From another consignor we will selling an oil on canvas portrait of Eleanor Paxson Ball, 1874-1914, a descendant of the Bye/Paxson families and is listed in a book of the Bye family history authored by Arthur Edwin Bye.  Also included from this consignor is an interesting Arts & Crafts octagonal table in oak.

Items being sold from another family in the Buckingham, PA area are some interesting older Oriental rugs, an English tall case clock with a movement signed James Goodyear, along with over shelf & hanging clocks, a piece of Hungarian art pottery by Zsolnay, an unusual stuffed money pull toy marked Steiff and a 20th C folk art Dutch windmill lawn ornament.

Lastly, there is another Estate consignor from a Warwick Twp. farm which includes an extensive and interesting collection of bar, beer & liquor advertising pieces, vintage cast iron mechanical bank marked Artillery Bank, pair of vintage Art Deco apothecary store jars/show globes w/stoppers, vintage cast iron Art Deco One Cent Commercial Scale (tells weight & fortune) and a local vintage advertising sign-J.M. Carr Real Estate and Insurance, Hartsville, PA.

Mid 20th C modern Minguren I Coffee Table attributed to George Nakashima in American black walnut, approx. 19” height x 36” length x 22” wide, marked in black marker on underside – Planned Parenthood.  This table is accompanied by a letter from Mira Nakashima of George Nakashima Woodworkers Studio in New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which states, in their opinion, that this table is the work of George Nakashima, Woodworker, S.A. until proof arises to the contrary.  This original letter, in its entirety, dated February 16, 2019, addressed to the owner (auction company’s client) will accompany this piece of furniture.

IMPORTANT UPDATED INFORMATION:  George Nakashima Woodworkers discovered two original order slips/invoices pertaining to a Minguren I table that were designated for Planned Parenthood which is indicated on the underside of this table.  There is some variation in dimensions; however, the Auction Company is going to include copies of both of these original order slips to the purchaser of this table, one dated January 25, 1995 and October 23, 1996.
