Hudson Valley Auctioneers will present the unreserved estate of noted ephemera dealer Samuel Seiffer at auction on Monday August 27th at 5:00 PM.


 Mr. Seiffer was a man of a wide and a somewhat connected variety of interests and this sale reflects all of them. As Columbia graduate in sociology in the 1960's items from that period include a large collection of his personal photographs of NYC scenes of the time. His equipment includes Graphlex, Leica, several other 35mm, movie cameras and films,a Beseler enlarger and a large group of early box cameras and others. He was a poet as well as a writer and offered will be an extensive typed interview of Roy Lichtenstein accompanied by original images.


Also from that period in his life a collection of social poetry, a large lot of anti establishment pamphlets, and newspapers and posters from his cluttered Mamaroneck apartment. Similarly there is also a large lot of material relating to the history and scandals of the Tammany Society in NY including images, ribbons and medals, books and other obscure references.


Several Edison cylinder players and a host of records, opera including Caruso, Gene Autry, old telephones, 19th century "ring" vase and Sandwich glass lighting are other testaments to the variety of his collection. Stage and screen including opera items are scattered throughout; autographs, several period posters, photographs and a large collection sheet music including 19th century and scripts.

The art of engraving and lithography throughout the 19th century was of major interest and offered will be an extensive collection of Currier and Ives prints many sold in large groups, copper and steel engravings mostly political and biographical with an emphasis on presidents especially George Washington which are also offered singly and in groups.


A large collection of actual copper and steel engraved plates from small to large will be sold singly and in groups.

His interest in 19th century life politics extended to a large lot of CDV's and other photographs, glass plate negatives, early Art Union medals and pamphlets, a large collection of stereo cards to be sold in one lot, fraternal shaving mugs and ephemera and of course many lots of books; histories, travel, opinion and illustrated.



Over 100 Currier prints of every subject imaginable!

Furniture from the apartment includes several barrister bookcases, metal files and custom mahogany dining room pieces. Several large frame lots, Stanley plane collection, Erie canal boat lanterns, parade torches and Civil War related material are some of the other 450 plus lots.

FROM PA & CT: take I-84 to NY Exit 11 (Rt. 9D), go south to Main and turn left, follow to 432 Main. Parking is plentiful behind the Yankee Clipper Diner and on side streets and in lot across from gallery (LOOK FOR SIGNS).
FROM ALBANY: take NYS Thruway (I-87) to Newburgh exit to I-84 East to Exit 11 (just over bridge), turn right onto 9D, and follow above.
FROM NYC: take Palisade Parkway to Bear Mountain Bridge, cross to Rt. 9D north to Beacon, right on Teller Ave. to light at Main, look for parking signs, right on Main to 432.
ALTERNATE ROUTES: NYS Thruway or Sawmill and Taconic Parkways to Rt. 84. Beacon is located where I-84 crosses the Hudson River.
