1 - Abbott Fuller Graves (Massachusetts/Maine, 1859-1936) Oil on canvas of doorway housed in a very fine frame crafted by Walfred Thulin. The painting is signed lower right and the frame is signed on verso and numbered “1774” and dated “1927”. The piece having a small patch (1 3/4" x 3") at the back side lower mid section in a dark area, which is only detectable with a blacklight or viewing from the backside, otherwise good condition. The canvas is original and has not been relined at any point. Framed: H36" W30 1/4"

2 - British or American School arly to mid 19th century. Oil on canvas of mountainous countryside, unsigned. The piece is very well executed and detailed. The piece has been relined and has some travels of crazing to the surface. H 29 1/8" W 36" Note: Sold from the collection of an early Sewanee Tennessee Family.

3 - Charles Partridge Adams (Colorado/California/Massachusetts, 1858-1942) Watercolor on paper of Western mountain landscape, signed lower right.The piece is signed on verso with location title, "Siera Blanca - Sunset Light near Garland Colorado." Good condition with no foxing or other damage detected. Signed lower left corner. H12 1/2" W22 1/4" (image size without the frame)

4 - Reginald Marsh (New York/Vermont, 1898-1954) Oil on board of dockside New York river scene. Signed lower right and housed in period frame which retains label from the “Royal Art Framing Co of New York”. Some slight losses to the border at top 1/4" into the sky portion of the painting. Some very minor wear to surface. H16 3/4" W19 1/4"

5 - American or British School Horse Portrait Early to mid 19th century. Well executed oil on board housed in a period frame. While it is unsigned at the front, the back of the piece has what looks to be a description written in pencil along with the artist name which is very hard to detect. The piece would benefit from being cleaned. Framed: H15 1/2" W19 1/4"

6 - Period Old Master School 16th or 17th century. Oil on canvas of Mary holding Christ, the piece is well executed and unsigned. It is housed in what looks to be an 18th century frame. The piece has several tears to the canvas as seen in photographs however the majority of the image itself is present for conservation. Canvas size: H9 3/4" W7 1/8" Framed: H14 1/2" W12 1/8" Recently discovered by our team on the second floor of a 19th century South Carolina plantation home.

7 - John Bates Noel (United Kingdom, 1870-1927) Oil on canvas landscape with charming plant stems in the foreground. Some damage near the bottom of the picture entailing loss to paint and crackling, likely due to moisture. The piece is housed in a very fine period gilt frame which also has some slight losses. Framed: H31" W42 1/4"

8 - William Starkweather (Maine 1879-1969) Lifesize impressionist oil on canvas nude female with two parrots at her side, of the art deco period. Excellent and vibrant example of this artist work, signed lower right. Some crazing to surface but this is minimal. The piece is housed in a period gilt frame which measures a total of 81 1/4" x 50 1/2". Note: Sold from a private New York City Collection.

9 - William Starkweather (Maine 1879-1969) Lifesize oil on canvas titled, "The Blind Musicians." The piece is unframed and retains the label on verso giving title and location of Madrid along with the date of 1914. Some crazing to the surface but a good overall condition. H55 1/4" W70 1/2" Note: Sold from a private New York City Collection.

10 - James Ralph Wilcox (Florida/New York/Canada, 1866-1915) Watercolor titled "The Tomoka River", a very large work for the artist and well detailed. The piece is signed lower right and retains label on verso giving title along with name of frame company which is “Wunderly Brothers of Philadelphia”. This painting hung in the Mongahalla House in Pittsburg, PA.

11 - British School Mid to late 19th century. Oil on canvas of lion and lioness housed in late 19th century frame. The piece is signed at the lower right hand side but it is very faint. Some losses to gessoed frame, otherwise good condition to canvas with no restorations detected. Framed: H25" W30 1/4"

12 - Melvin Orville Miller Jr. (Maryland, 1937-2007) Oil on canvas titled on verso, "Chesapeake Mists." Very well executed oil housed in what looks to be the original frame. Good condition no damage detected. Framed: H29" W33"

13 - Henry Baxley Snell (Pennsylvania/New York/England, 1858-1943) Gouache on paper of misty morning harbor with tug boat and large vessel at dockside, sSigned lower left. Good condition throughout. Sight size: W27 1/2" H20"

14 - American School Nautical Scene 1887. New England School oil on canvas of rocky coastline with steam ship and sail boats in the distance. The piece is monogramed lower right “JHJ” and dated “87”. The piece is housed in a very handsome frame of the period which has been resurface in some areas. No apparent restoration or major damage, some slight crazing to surface. H33" W36"

15 - Elliot Candee Clark (Virginia/New York/Europe, 1882-1980) Oil on canvas of clipper ship in high seas with ship in distance, signed lower right “E C Clark”. A puncture at the upper right hand corner, otherwise good overall condition. H30 1/2" W40"

16 - Jacqueline Comerre-Paton (Paris, France, 1859-1955) Oil on canvas of Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf. The piece is signed by Comerre at the upper right and then on verso the stretcher having a stenciled label from Lagraine. The piece is housed in a period and possible original carved and gilt frame which is very well detailed. There is a patch to the piece at the head of the subject which only visible with a blacklight. Good overall condition wear consistent with age. H 29 1/4" W 37" framed Note: Mrs. Comerre was the wife of artist Léon François Comerre (1850-1916).

17 - Charles Paul Gruppe (Massachusetts/New York/Netherlands/Canada, 1860-1940) Well executed guache of canal, likely in the Netherlands, signed lower right. Good condition. Sight size: H14 1/8" W22 1/4"

18 - British or American School Early to mid 19th century. Oil on canvas of well-detailed countryside with domestic figures and animals and long mountain view alongside lake, unsigned. Very well executed. On verso the frame reads, " Belonged to Mrs Race who's from New Orleans and lived at Morgans Steed Bovohi by Maria Dorcher Gaillard Brooks was in preston Smith Brooks home in Sewanee then her Daughters Mrs Edmund Kirby-Smith 160 South Grove Park Rd Memphis 1968.” Framed: H36" W43 1/4" Note: Sold from the collection of an early Sewanee Tennessee Family.

19 - William Closson (Massachusetts/Vermont/ Connecticut, 1849-1926) Oil on board titled, "Path to the Beach." Signed lower right and housed in a quality gilt frame which is likely original. Having a frame label on verso from Cavalry's of Boston. Good condition. H21" W25"

20 - William H Weisman (Massachusetts/Pennsylvania/New Hampshire, 1840-1922) A pair of works, oil on board of coastal rocky seascapes. Each housed in conforming gilt frame and signed lower right “WH Weisman” and titled on verso “Sunrise Gloucester Mass” and the other “Cape Mass Light”. Good condition with some slight shrinkage to the frame. Framed: H15" W11"

21 - Lloyd Branson (Tennessee/New York/France 1853-1925) Portrait of Knoxville, Tennessee Mayor Peter Staub (1827-1904). The portrait is dated “1910” and signed “Branson” lower right. Oil on board, unframed but accompanied by the original plaque which hung below the piece. H43" W32" Note: Peter Staub is noted for his influence in the diverse culture of Knoxville during his time as mayor between 1874-1881. He was a Swiss Immigrant and played a crucial role in post war development in this area building the first playhouse, starting public schools and establishing the first fire department. This piece is sold from Staub's family collection.

22 - Parker Brothers Grade 7 Hammer 12 Gauge Shotgun Serial Number 92791 made in 1899. The piece exhibiting considerably well-chased details throughout the chamber, hammers, trigger guard and tang. The piece was custom ordered in Whitworth Steal. Original blueing and the stock is crafted from walnut with a checkered grip in an early rich finish. Good condition no apparent restoration and the gun is very original. L 49" Note: Sold from the personal collection of a private Camden, South Carolina family. FFL background check required for the purchase of this lot.

23 - Frank Wesson Bicycle Gun or Pocket Rifle 1870, Worcester, Massachusetts. Serial number 1066. Having a very interesting form with detachable shoulder stock. The wood grips look to be original and show some wear. Some scattered pitting consistent with age and use.

24 - H.T. Cooper New York Long Rifle New York City (active 1845-1858). Having a handsomely metal inlaid butt with chased butt plate and chased patch box at one side with deer at the other continuing to checkered stock and handsomely chased tang above signed and chased side plate attached to chased hammer. The piece having an octagonal barrel and at some point, likely in the early 20th century, it was outfitted with a modern ring site at the end of the barrel, which can easily be removed if desired. Scattered pitting and wear to early metal surface and stock. In as found condition. L54"

25 - J.P. Lower .32 Caliber Pocket Revolver Circa 1860. Having octagonal barrel and early, likely original, mahogany grip. Marked with serial number 3852 at the barrel, cylinder and base of the grip. Old surface pitting consistent with age and use. Good overall original condition in as found condition.

26 - Quality Antique British Hunter Fowling or Shotgun Early to mid 19th century, London. The piece is marked at one side “Hunter”. The piece having a checkered stock with scrolling trigger guard and chased side plate and tang. The top of the barrel is marked “London”. Good overall condition with some cleaning, in as found condition. L51"

27 - Allen and Wheelock Pocket Revolver Circa 1860. Having octagonal barrel and old finish with what looks to be the original mahogany grip. Having scattered pitting consistent with use and age.

28 - Fur Trade Native American Belt Ax Trade Pipe 19th century or earlier. Having a mixed metal ax head with dovetailed blade attached to ax handle which is decorated with tacks and shows nice wear. L19 1/4"

29 - American Flintlock Maple Long Rifle Early 19th century. Marked at the lock “Green & Wetmore Warranted”. The stocking having a handsomely inset brass patch box which leads into the butt plate and continues up the the trigger guard. The upper stock is a figured birch or maple, the tang is short but looks to be original. L59 1/4"

30 - Southern Carved Black Walnut Fireplace Surround Circa 1870, Sewanee, Tennessee, Franklin County, attributed to Melchior Thoni. Crafted from Black Walnut, Hard Poplar and Cherry, the mantle boasts exceptionally detailed animals of the region, such as squirrel, rabbit, deer, birds and fox, and intricately pierced and carved vine and leaf. An excellent and important example of Southern craft in 19th century Franklin County Tennessee. H48" W52 1/2" D12" Note: Melchior Thoni was raised in Switzerland where he trained as a carver before coming to the United States in 1869. He was known for creating carvings in the region to sell to Monteagle tourists, such as frames, animals, candlesticks and furniture. This mantle was acquired by its owner from the family home of Lily Baker and Rose Lovell's in Sewanee, Tennessee. Thoni also carved a very interesting staircase in the one story home, with a carved dwarf as the newel post, the decorative piece simply ran into the ceiling. Melchior is also noted for his commission to build The Flying Jenny carousel and carvings in the Old Governor’s Mansion and Christ’s Church pulpit both in Nashville, Tennessee. The piece is sold directly from the Kirby Smith family in Sewanee, Tennessee.

31 - Southern Federal Marble Top Hall or Mixing Table Circa 1820, probably Tennessee or Kentucky. Having the original thick white marble top with handsomely shaped edge resting atop figured mahogany freeze continuing down to four well carved and turned legs. Secondary wood is tulip poplar. Excellent uncommon form. H30 1/2" W38 3/4" D19 3/4" This piece is sold from the family of the original owners and was handed down to Fanny H Russell-Burt of Palatka, Florida to Ruth A Burt to Dr. J Kirby-Smith and then to his descendants today. It was used in the family home known as Powhatan Hall in Sewanee, Tennessee.

32 - Country Federal Paint Decorated Corner Cabinet Early 19th century, America. Having molded crown above two glazed doors opening to two shaped shelves with early blue paint continuing down to a single drawer at the center above two paneled doors at bottom case opening to a single shelf, all resting atop bracket feet. The surface is early and bold. The cabinet is a two piece. H81 1/4" W54 3/4" D27 3/8"

33 - Fine Southern Federal Inlaid Mahogany Card Table Circa 1800, Charleston, South Carolina. Demilune fold out top centered by exceptional inlaid medallion at the center and surrounded by banded edge continuing down to freeze which is centered by a federal eagle at the center and flanked by federal eagle at the top of each leg continuing to Charleston single piece bellflower inlay on tapered and banded legs. H 29 1/2" W 41 5/8" D 20 1/4" From the family collection of George Walton Williams of Charleston, South Carolina, the builder and original owner of the Calhoun Mansion at 16 Meeting Street. Sold from the collection of a prominent private Charleston, South Carolina collector and scholar.

34 - Rare Southern Federal Inlaid Walnut Sugar Desk Circa 1800, likely Tennessee or Kentucky. Having dovetailed top case centered by inlay of a crane in a swamp continuing down to fall front which is elegantly banded and opens to interior with a divider at the interior for sugar or other commodities. The case having banding surrounding bottom skirt and rest atop elegant French feet. H29 1/2" W25 3/4" D14 3/4" Note: The family which owned this piece also owned a coverlet which is signed Shelby Co and Dated 1851, likely for Shelby County Tennessee. The Coverlet is also offered in this sale.

35 - Fine Chippendale Walnut Clock by Martin Shreiner Last quarter of the 18th century, Lancaster, PA. The clock is No 7. having a broken arch pediment with three turned finials continuing down to a glazed door at the bonnet which houses a handsomely painted face. The face has not be repainted and is original. The case having excellent form with a narrow midbody housing one long door flanked by quarter columns at each side and continuing down to lower case, all resting atop four handsomely turned feet which are original and in good condition. H 97 1/2" W 21 1/2" D 11 3/8" Sold from the collection of a Washington DC area family, the piece has descended in the family for at least a century.

36 - Antique Plantation or Planters Chair Mid 19th century, Caribbean or West Indies. Having long arms with carved back rest centered by woven cane seat and back. Mortised and pegged construction throughout. Good sturdy condition. H27 1/2" W23 1/4" D 44" The chair was recently discovered an antebellum home in Ridgeway, South Carolina.

37 - Antique Plantation or Planters Chair Mid 19th century, Caribbean or West Indies. Having very long arms with carved and turned wood backrest centered by woven cane seat and back. Mortised and pegged construction throughout. Good sturdy condition. H41" W26 1/4" D57" The chair was recently discovered an antebellum home in Ridgeway, South Carolina.

38 - Southern Country Federal Poplar Blanket Chest Circa 1810, Likely Tennessee. Having a hinged rectangular top flanked by molded overhang at each side leading down to intricately paneled case which is pegged, all resting atop shaped and molded base. H20 1/2" W36" D19 3/4"

38a - Antique Hepplewhite Mahogany Side Chair Early to mid 19th century, Caribbean or West Indies. Having handsome form with mortised construction and cane seat. Good sturdy condition, seat is early and undamaged. H36 1/8" W18 3/8" D15 7/8" The chair was recently discovered an antebellum home in Ridgeway, South Carolina.

39 - Southern Yellow Pine Country Federal Tavern Table Early 19th century, possibly Upstate South Carolina origin. Thick book matched yellow pine two board top which looks to be original to the table continuing down to yellow pine case centred by a long drawer with turned wood pulls all resting atop sharply tapered legs with a beaded edge. Peg construction throughout and yellow pine throughout. H37 3/4" W31 1/4" D25 1/4" Sold from the collection of an Upstate, SC family.

40 - American Federal Inlaid Cherry Chest of Drawers Circa 1800, possibly Upcountry, South Carolina. Having rectangular top with molded edge above four slightly graduated inlaid drawers, all resting atop handsome French bracket feet. H35 1/4" W41 1/4" D19 3/8" Note: The piece is sold from an early Greenville South Carolina family collection.

41 - Early Southern Piedmont Chest of Drawers 18th century, likely North Carolina or South Carolina Piedmont. The piece having a very intriguing form with shaped backsplash over two-tier top flanked by two small drawers and continuing down to four slightly graduated drawers all centered by diamond inlaid escutcheons and resting atop four shaped bracket feet with shaped freeze at bottom center. The secondary wood is yellow pine and the primary wood looks to be poplar and yellow pine. Each drawer having a very thin overhang to the front characteristic of the region. The piece has a fine early surface. H45 W37" D19 1/4"

42 - American Chippendale Walnut Chest of Drawers 18th century, possibly Virginia or North Carolina. Having a rectangular top with sharply molded edge above two over three drawer configuration with well-crafted quarter columns at each side, all resting atop very handsome and bold ogee bracket feet. Secondary wood is yellow pine. H35 1/4" W40 3/4" D23 1/2"

43 - Southern Walnut Queen Anne Work or Side Table 18th century, likely Piedmont North Carolina. Having rectangular top above pegged freeze emitting four legs which terminate in a trifid foot. H27 3/4" W25" D38"

44 - American Cherry Federal Corner Cabinet Circa 1810, probably Southern. Having a molded crown above two long paneled doors which open to three shelves and continue down to two shorter paneled doors which open to a single shelf, all resting atop bracket feet. H82 3/4" W49" D29"

45 - Southern Federal Inlaid Walnut Cellarette Circa 1800, likely North Carolina or Virginia origin. The piece having a hinged top with rounded edge opening to compartments for wine bottles. The shell-inlaid and banded case is completely dovetail constructed and the backboard is yellow pine. The upper case is atop a single drawer with bale handle and continues down to peg constructed lower case which emits four bellflower inlaid tapered legs. H37" W22 1/4" D16 1/4"

46 - Southern Federal YellowPine& Poplar Corner Cabinet Circa 1820. Having a handsome dentil molded crown above two long paneled doors which open to two shelves at the interior and two smaller paneled doors at bottom which house a single shelf. H80" W40" D27" Note: Found in the Upstate of South Carolina near Travelers Rest.

47 - American Chippendale Walnut Drop Leaf Dining Table 18th century, possibly Southern States. One board rectangular top flanked by two long drop leaves at each side, which are two board, and rests atop a handsomely shaped freeze, all standing on square legs with a reeded edge. H28 1/4" W19" D48"

48 - Southern Federal Yellow Pine & Walnut Cupboard Circa 1820, likely Upcountry South Carolina, school of James Mattison working in Anderson County, South Carolina. Having a thick yellow pine slab top with beaded edge at front side above two deep drawers also having beaded edge at top and bottom of the drawer front and two paneled doors opening to a single shelf within having paneled case in walnut at the side and yellow pine at the front and resting atop federal tapered feet at front and back. H46 3/4" W43 1/2" D21 1/2" The piece was discovered by the recent owner in a Richland County, South Carolina estate.

49 - Tennessee Federal Walnut Sugar Desk Early 19th century, likely middle Tennessee origins. Having bold molded crown above two paneled doors which open to many pigeon holes of varying size, leading down to handsomely grained walnut lids which have continuous grain from lid to lid and open to interior which is divided. The right hand side having food residue at interior and each side having lock. All resting atop four turned tapering legs. H60 1/2" W37" D22 1/2" Note: The family who owns this piece is from Nashville Tennessee and this is has remained in the family until offered here.

50 - American Painted Pine Cupboard Probably Tennessee, mid 19th century. Top section with molded crest above two glazed doors on base section with three drawers. H81 1/2" W47" D15 1/2" Note: This cupboard belong to Postmaster Mize of Loudon, Tennessee and is being sold directly from the family.

51 - Southern Federal Inlaid Mahogany Dining Table Circa 1800, likely North or South Carolina. The piece having one board tops and leaves with fine grain and canting down to banded freeze board, all resting atop tapered legs which terminate in later spayed cup casters One leaf is two board. Secondary wood is yellow pine. H29 1/8" W52" L95 3/4" Found by the previous owner in a Walterboro, South Carolina home.

52 - Monumental Japanese Bronze Eagle Form Censor Meiji period. Having excellent form with well detailed eagle atop branch with wings open. The back of the eagle opens to house incense. The eagles wings pull out and the body lifts off for easier shipping of the piece. This is as made. Excellent early patina throughout. H61" W61" D32" Note: This piece was purchased by the current owner from the collection of the former owner of Eagle Bus Lines in Greenville, South Carolina.

53 - Antique Chinese Ox Blood Porcelain Vase Qing Period. Having elegantly potted form adorned at each side with deer handles and resting atop a well placed foot. The piece is handsomely glazed with deep rich red and blue tones. One deer is missing an ear, otherwise good condition with no restoration or other damage detected. H12"

54 - Antique Chinese Porcelain Brush Pot Qing Period. Unglazed brush pot having cylindrical body with very well detailed raised and chased decoration. The piece having loose eyes which move when touched, marked at the foot with chop. Scattered staining to surface consistent with age and use. The interior of the rim having a small chip, some wear to high spots of the vessel. H5 1/2"

55 - Very Fine Chinese Celadon Ming Dynasty Censer Longquan. Censer in the form of a standing beast with removable head serving as the lid while the mouth releases smoke. The piece having an early hardwood stand. No breaks, cracks or restoration. H6 7/8" (not including the stand) Sold from the private collection of a Tennessee family.

56 - Large Vintage Chinese Porcelain Floor Vase 19th or early 20th century. Having ovoid red glazed body adorned with a striking gilt dragon at the upper body. Marked at the foot with Chinese characters. Good condition no restoration detected or other damage. H16 1/2"

57 - Antique Chinese Stoneware Censer on Stand Ming or early Qing Period. Having a jade finial at top above pierced hardwood lid continuing down to slightly ovoid body emitting three legs all resting atop carved hardwood stand. The piece having a chop mark of Evergreen and is signed at the side, "Three Sons Can Get Success At Once." Good condition with no repairs. H8 1/4" (including the stand)

58 - Antique Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Lidded Urn Late Qing or Republic Period. Having well-detailed blue decoration on white porcelain ground with foo lion at the lid atop circular floral decoration continuing down to boldly decorated slightly ovoid body. The piece is marked with characters at the foot. No restoration or damage detected, good condition. H14 3/4"

59 - Antique Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Lidded Urn Late Qing or Republic Period. Having good form with bold blue decoration on white ground. Good condition with some slight wear to the foot consistent with age. No restoration or damage. H13 3/8"

60 - Antique Chinese Hardwood & Marble Side Chair 19th century, Qing Period. Having very elegant lines with pierced and carved backrest which is inset with white marble and leads down to mortised and carved seat continuing to carved and mortised frame with handsomely carved freeze at center. Some shrinkage but overall good original condition. H40" W21 1/4" D17" Sold from the collection of an early Tennessee family.

61 - Pair Antique Oriental Temple Food Dog Capitals 19th century or earlier. The pieces are handsomely carved from a single piece of wood. Early surface, no apparent restoration. H10 1/2" W29" D12" These capitals are said to have been purchased from a Buddhist Temple by the current owners family in the early 20th century.

62 - Pair Antique Chinese Carved & Lacquered Foo Dogs Qing period, 19th century or earlier. Having well carved details throughout with early red lacquered surface. Some shrinkage to the bodies and losses to surface. No apparent restoration and in original as found condition. H13" W18"

63 - Antique Chinese Hardwood Marble Top High Table 19th century, Qing period. Having circular top with very handsome grey and white marble inset leading down to pierced and carved skirt resting atop four legs connected by mortised stretcher. Having elegant form with fan shaped back which is inset with red marble and surrounded by brass inlay above white marble seat continuing down to mortised frame with carved and pierced freeze at front. 65 - Rare Unopened Jaeger-Lecoultre Atmos Clock Mid 20th century, Switzerland. The piece is completely sealed and in its original box. 156 - Large & Important Antique SC Photo by E.T. Start Circa 1904, Camden, South Carolina. The picture features the Camden Polo Team and the New Orleans Polo Team which played one another five times in 1904. Start photographed the teams at least twice during this time. It should be noted also that at the center of the photograph in the background proudly sitting atop his white horse is an African-American gentleman who is likely a trainer or other official. The picture includes Camden Team A.D. Kennedy Jr., Gerald Whistler, Rodgers Barstow Jr. and A.F. King and the New Orleans team includes G.H. Graham, A. Merle, M. Weiss and C.A. Andrews. Bill Solomon is listed as Umpire and is likely the African American gentleman on horseback in this image. Good overall condition housed in period frame. 510 - Rare South Carolina Book of Charleston Interest The book is printed 1870 for the Wando Mining and Manufacturing Company on the Ashley River. At the interior the book gives a listing of testimonials of farmers which use the products produced by the firm. This book also gives account of fossils found in the region’s mines including the jawbone of a Megalodon shark, the skeleton of Mylodon and the tooth of a woolly mammoth. Very interesting piece giving the names of planters around the Low Country and describing many of their experiences in farming and life.

512 - Civil War Map of North Carolina Interest The map showing pursuit of General Benham of General Floyd in Fayetteville, North Carolina, November 12 and 14, 1861. The piece is an interesting account of this particular incident and gives great typographical reference in the region at that particular time. Printed by Richardson, NY. 513 - SC Confederate Veteran Letter Discussing Civil War Jan. 31, 1907 Rock Hill SC. Confederate veteran Iredell Jones (1842-1907) eyewitness to the surrender of Ft Sumter, writes to a friend regarding his service during the war. “I was 2nd Lieut. in the SC college cadets....sent to Charleston during which I was present at surrender of Major Anderson.” Jones served throughout the war and was wounded at the battle of 1st Manassas. He served in the SC legislature in 1880 and was the son in law of SC governor James H. Adams.

514 - Set 1885 Antique Volumes by Dickens Printed by Campbell Printing House New York and published by Belford Clarke and Co of Chicago. The set includes 15 volumes. Some separations at the spine and wear the the edges but overall good condition to pages with some minor yellowing.

This piece has been handed down through the family of the original owner to descendant, Patrick Taliaferro Calhoun, a descendant of John C. Calhoun.

H7 1/2" Note: The piece was purchased by the current owner from an early South Carolina folk art collection. A similar example was a part of the ACACIA Collection of African American Material Culture. Though it was much smaller, that example was crafted from a very similar stone and of the same approximate period.

645 - Two Antique American Redware Preserve Jars 18th or early 19th century, Pennsylvania or Southern States. The two jars are manganese glazed with cylindrical body and flared rims. The smaller of the jars having a brown earth tone clay body and the larger jar having a more bright red clay body. Each having some slight pitting to the glaze but overall good condition with no cracks or restoration. H8" H6 1/2" Note: Found recently in Camden, South Carolina.

646 - Uncommon Southern Stoneware Face Jug Mid 20th century, by the Hewell family, Georgia. The vessel having well-formed facial features with an Albany glaze on a red clay body. Good condition throughout. H8 1/2" Note: There are four known examples of this particular maker which has been associated with the Hewells working in Jug Town around the middle 20th century. The family crafted gardenware and other utilitarian pottery as early as the 19th century.

647 - Rare Southern Art Pottery Signed Vase Arts and Crafts Period, By Jasper Newton Long also known as Jack Long (1880-1967) of Byron, Georgia. Having a brilliant turquoise glaze on a well-formed, flared body and with makers mark at the base. Good condition with only a very small 1/16" flake in the glaze at the rim. H7 3/4"

648 - Southern Stoneware Jug Circa 1870, Edgefield District, South Carolina, likely Miles Mill. Having single ring spout on ovoid body with well-placed strap handle and dark olive alkaline glaze. Shallow nick to the spout. Some kiln blisters but otherwise good condition. H9 1/4" Found recently in Savannah Georgia.

649 - Antique South Carolina Dispensary Bottle Circa 1900. Union flask in aqua, 1/2 pint having a bold mark at the front of the bottle. The spout having a flaw in the glass and the interior backside interior having a flaw. Scattered bubbles in the glass as-made. H6 1/2"

650 - Southern Slave Made Churn Circa 1860, Edgefield District, South Carolina, attributed to Dave. The piece having a very well-defined rim and throwing ridge indicative of Dave's work during this period. Flanked by two high and proud tab handles, also a strong characteristic of Dave’s work, continuing down to cylindrical body which is handsomely alkaline glazed. The piece having to small slash marks at the upper body followed by four punctuates. The rim having early damage as seen in photographs. otherwise the piece is in good condition. This is an uncommon form for Dave. H17 1/2" Recently discovered in Savannah Georgia.

651 - Uncommon Southern Stoneware Water Cooler Middle 19th century, likely Edgefield District South Carolina or Crawford County Georgia. The piece having an uncommon barrel type form with spout near the base and a very rich and running alkaline glaze with a great deal of iron. The base is unglazed and toasty. The piece is in original as found condition with traces of red paint. The rim is chipped around the top there is a tight hairline crack at three sides of the rim continuing down to middle upper body which are stable. The backside of the cooler having a blister 2 3/4" x 2" the upper left side having another blister 1" x 1" Some nicks around the foot. Otherwise good condition wear consistent with use and age. H14 1/2"

652 - Antique Salt Glazed Stoneware Beer Pitcher Late 19th century, Utica, New York by Whites of Utica. The piece having original pewter lid attached to figural handle leading down to slightly ovoid body with Greek key decoration at top and bottom. Centred by the impressed decoration of man with pipe and beer mug which is flanked by the decoration of a beer barrel at one side and the other side a pitcher. Good condition, no apparent restoration or damage. H10"

653 - Vintage African Pottery Figural Head Jug To middle 20th century, likely Kongo and perhaps a ceremonial piece. The piece looks to have been coil built and then sculpted and is topped with a very striking head which is flanked by a handle and spout. The backside having a very tight hairline. No other repairs detected. Some surface scuffs and abrasions consistent with use and age. H13 3/4"

The lid of the box which is carved serpentine is broken in some areas, otherwise good overall condition to items.

Durant served in the American Revolution under General Francis Marion and helped defend South Carolina from invasion of British Troops. 774 - Antique Book“The Poetic Works of Sir Walter Scott” Published In Philadelphia 1829 by J. Christie and J. Gregg. Book by J.W. Lake. The book is signed at the interior by Maria Louisa Gibbs and features several drawings at of floral still lifes and in the back a small portrait of a lady, possibly self portrait. The book was given by Mrs. Gibbs to relative Anne Simmons Ball as one page reads, dated “June 25 1841”. Mrs. Gibbs was the wife of Lowcountry South Carolina Planter Mathurin Guerin Gibbs (d. 1849) owner of Rice Hope and Jericho Plantations. Mr. Gibbs is noted for his five volume journal of the two plantations taking account from 1838-1846 and entitled “Rural Callander”, the volumes make detailed note of activities and life on the two plantations. It is noted however that Gibbs dedicated a great deal of the book's content to the flora and fauna of the plantations instead of producing crops and growing income, this may, perhaps, explain his loss of the two plantations. The also explains the drawings within this very book and the subjects of those drawings. Mr Gibbs is noted as having a very fine library which was eventually sold when his family departed Charleston for Rice Hope Plantation.

775 - Civil War Sermon from Holly Springs, Tennessee The pastor began writing his sermon the first week of August 1864. Within the sermon the pastor then gives account of happenings during that time which reads as follows: "This sermon begun the first week in Aug, 1964 and finished the last week. The Yankees, under Gen A.J. Smith entered Holly Springs on the 1st day of August and left on there retreat, Sunday the 28th. They went as far as Oxford, and burnt that town-ravaged the country with fire and sword, burning houses, destroying crops, stealing negroes and cattle. On Friday the 26th: The Courthouse in H.S. was burnt. An army of 20,000 new Confederates turned back by a few thousand Cav under gen Forest. Who which about 2600 took Memphis on Sunday the 21st. This flank movement made Smith abandon in and around H.S. They broke my room, stole books, clothing.... From plague, pestilence and famine ; from battle, murder, sudden death and Yankees, Good Lord Deliver Us. H.S. Sept 4th 64, May 21, 65.” Some yellowing to paper consistent with age. Some wear the the edges and folds. Sold from the private collection of a Southern Gentleman.

776 - Important Vintage Nascar Racing Trophy Collection 1950’s and later. The collection consist of eleven art deco trophies won by Female Nascar driver Louis P. Smith of Greenville, South Carolina. The trophies include 1953 Winner Danville Virginia Fairground Speedway, Winner 1955 All State Women Championship Race, Winner 1954 Chattanooga Raceways Modified Division, Sportsman Race Winner Jacksonville Speedway 1952, Georgia roundup Woman Driver of the year and South-Eastern Champion Woman Driver Mobile Alabama. Note: Affectionately called the first lady of Nascar, Mrs. Smith was the first Female race driver to compete at Nascar's highest level. Throughout her career, spanning from 1949-1956, she won 38 races.

777 - Antique Book “The Pilgrim's Progress”, John Bunyan Published 1833 by Andrus and Judd of Hartford Connecticut. Full titled "The Pilgrim's Progress from this World to That which is to Come. Delivered under the similitude of a Dream. Interior cover signed Geo R Stocter? St. George SC. Original cover and leather binding. Binding is a bit torn. Pages wishing having wear to the edges and some discoloration, wear consistent with age.

778 - German Hand Colored Map of VA or New Amsterdam Hand colored copper engraved map by Nicholas Visscher II (Dutch, 1683-1696). The map looks to be a 19th-century copy and has the watermark of Van Gelder at the centre. The piece is intricately detailed and the colors that accent the piece are bright. Good overall condition with some discoloration to paper. The piece has been examined out of the frame and shows no signs of restoration. H19 1/4" W23"

779 - Collection Antique Prints of Native Tribes 19th century. The group consisting of tribes from Samoa to Africa and gives excellent account of day to day life within the tribe along with ceremonial customs and traditions as well as names of the particular tribes. It is said this was done by missionaries.

780 - Important Union District of SC Plantation Journal Circa 1840. The plantation journal of R.L. Farr's. This booklet contains an extensive record of daily weather and happenings on the Farr's Plantation but most importantly the booklet gives an amazing account in great detail the names of Slave mothers and their children. The booklet lists the names of 8 Slave mothers and over 50 slave children, with birth dates and some death dates. Names of mothers include Rebecca, Delila, Sharlton, Pinkney, Almina, Mary, Hester, Nelly and Shery. This booklet gives a look into the life and identity of a people who were rarely documented with such detail. It is an important object that has survived in considerably good condition.
