292 - Art Original Oil on Canvas by Anthony Casay Original oil painted by Anthony Casay. A gorgeous oil of a sunrise over the ocean. Light comes through the crashing waves, framed by mountains and a lone tree. Anthony Casay, the son of symphony orchestra musicians, was born in Madrid in 1942. At the age of eight, he and his family moved to Mexico City where the following year, he became a child actor and a budding artist (he took a starring role in the television series Les Miserables, and in his spare time painted and won several competitions in local art exhibits). At thirteen, his mural of the execution of Mexican leaders by French soldiers won him First Prize in a national competition. At seventeen, Casay began hosting, directing and producing television programs for children, incorporating his own designs and drawings as tools for learning and entertainment. A year later, the energetic youth delved into music, playing drums with rock and roll bands and then as back-up musician for the famous group "Bill Haley and the Comets". Eventually, Casay organized his own group and toured Central and South America. Extremely ambitious in intellectual terms as well, Casay made time to complete a degree in Diplomatic and Political Science and, upon graduation, was appointed Mexican Consul to the city of Los Angeles, California. It was then that he began to paint more; his seascapes won the praise of many. Casay began to shift from the role of diplomat to professional artist. Once discovered, his work began quickly selling across the United States. Casay is also a highly inventive artist and developed a glazing solution that allows his oil to flow across the canvas with the ease of watercolors. He comments "It was by accident that I discovered this chemical medium. Through its special properties, my paintings are unlike those of any other artist. I now have the ability to accurately balance the elasticity and texture of my oil paints. A special fluidity is achieved, allowing my brush strokes to disappear into the canvas, leaving only pure color visible…You might say it is my secret to success". When I begin a painting, I define the composition and then…. I work to bring it to its fullest potential. Each completed painting prompts me to want to excel further. Like the athlete who knows he can always jump further, I know I can break past barriers in technique by setting higher goals". The works of Anthony Casay are collected internationally and among his long list of noted collectors are the Royal Family of Iran; Harrods of London Gallery; and art enthusiast and collector Dr. Ira Pomeroy has acquired over thirty of his land and seascapes. 398 - Art Manuel Carbonell Sculpture Graceful and touching Manuel Carbonell sculpture. Features two nude people entwined together. Large sculpture on wood pedestal stand. Museum reproduction by Austin Productions, Inc. Some small paint flakes but overall a nice piece. From the internet: Carbonell, considered among the most important Latin America Master Sculptors, graduated in 1945 from the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes “San Alejandro”, Havana, Cuba with the title of Professor of Modeling and Drawing. At the Academia his Professor Jose Sicre greatly influenced his work. His chronological and stylistic trajectory commenced after graduation, when he traveled throughout Europe to study first-hand the works of the European Masters. Upon returning to Cuba, his work during the 1940’ and 1950’s was religious and classical. After excelling and winning many national awards and recognitions, Carbonell, in 1953, won his first international award at The III Bienal Hispanoamericana de Arte, Barcelona, Spain, with the life-size sculpture “Fin de Una Raza”. In 1959, he departed for New York to commence the development of his intensively modern and contemporary work in the 1960’s, culminating on Madison Avenue, then pinnacle of the art world. He exhibited and had biannual One Man Show for over 15 years at the renowned Schoneman Galleries. Other artists exhibited at the gallery were Renoir, Monet, Picasso, Degas, Chagall, Gauguin, Braque and many others. Many aspects of his rich and varied oeuvre, from his unique ever-transforming personal style and spectacular drawings to the monumental feeling he imparted to his maquettes and sculptures, led to commissions of major public monuments. Carbonell's commissioned works, as in the 53-foot bronze monument "Tequesta Family" at the Brickell Avenue Bridge, Miami, Florida, was more figurative and the anatomical accuracy was more subject to the artist's internalized sensations, but in his contemporary critically acclaimed personal style, Carbonell searched for the essence of the form and the absence of detail while empowering a feeling of monumentality to his sculptures. The uniqueness of his sculptures and variety of his interpretations provide a compelling evidence of his exceptional artistic talent. A brilliant combination of creativity and technique, a consistent originality and a “universal beauty” that the artist imparted to his work, has made his oeuvre permanent and transcendent to be recognized, appreciated and admired by present and future generations. Undoubtedly, as Dr. Fred Schoneman, Director of New York's former Madison Avenue Schoneman Gallleries expressed in 1974, Carbonell is one of the “Masters of Sculpture of our Times”. Incised 'Austin Prod. Inc 1966' and contains card information on artist. Measures 56" tall on a 9" x 9.5" base. Tag Words: Art, Sculpture, Metal Art, Décor, Intdes, Cuba, Cuban ZB10904 JJ
