About The Artist:

Douglas Johnsons intimate gouache paintings not only reflect the craft of Native American miniaturists, but also represent the life and imagery of Northern New Mexico. Born and raised in Portland  Oregon, Johnson is a self taught artist. He moved in his earlier years to California where he became entranced with the giant engines of the Santa Fe railroad. They appear every now in then in his paintings and lithographs. During Johnson's early 20s he lived for 3 years with a Navaho family as an adopted son , gaining insight into the manner of living of this great tribe. Hi artwork has been described as Indian mysticism. He blends various cultures to create his own surrealistic imagery which he contrasts with the use of precise geometric form. His work is magical with earts rich browns and reds, the muted blues and greens of the skies and trees. * Bio courtesy of
