oil on canvas, signed lower right "Elliott Daingerfield," idyllic summer landscape with a woman holding a parasol standing beside a woodland pond strewn with water lilies, verso of stretcher retains old wax customs seal, housed in a later painted and gold tone frame; This picture is a perfect illustration of the influence of the French Barbizon painters on Daingerfield's work, Born in Harper's Ferry, VA, Daingerfield moved with his family to Fayetteville, NC and retained close ties to the state for the remainder of his years. He studied under George Inness, Sr. and Walter Satterlee at the Art Students League in New York City and exhibited at the National Academy of Design.
