possibly late 18th c. - early 19th c., signed by Ann Bye and Mary Bye, the sampler by Sarah Ann Bye is worked on finely woven linen in green, yellow, and black, geometric border w/top panel consisting of stylized tree with birds amid birds and baskets of flowers, below maker's name is a tree with black dogs between urns of flowers flanked by trees with heart and diamond border, with some thread loss, very fine overall stitching; her sister's sampler is signed "Mary Bye her work", strawberry border w/flower basket and urn motifs, tulips' and small dogs identical to her sister's at base of urns, finely stitched in color threads, matching those of Sarah Ann Bye, some thread loss to fold; both in black frames with gold beaded liners; DOA 10 1/8"h x 12 1/8"w, ID 5 7/8"h x 8"w
