Item Description
We are proud to offer the finest large early vintage pressed steel firetruck that we have ever seen. In nearly mint condition, with only very minor paint nibbles and wear, this Giant 1936 FULLY FUNCTIONAL 45 inch long Buddy L #28 Water Tower truck is the Rolls Royce of pressed steel firetrucks of the 1930s era, and has all of its original accessories including the swivel spotlight and fire bell! Buddy L toys were first manufactured in 1921 by the Moline Pressed Steel Co. of Moline, ILL, and the toys were named after Buddy Lundahl the son of the owner Fred Lundahl. The original line of vehicles was so strong that the trucks could support the weight of a full grown man! After approximately 1932, the pressed steel fabrication techniques and materials were adjusted to lessen costs, but the strength of the Buddy L items still set the standard for durability for years to come. One area of concern however, was a less than adequate paint and finishing shop, and many mid 20th century trucks show a disproportionate amount of rust in joints. That fact alone makes our #28 Water Tower truck even more remarkable, as the paint is original and the CFD & Buddy L Water Tower decals are pristine!!! This is simply the finest original #28 that you will ever find.
