 Gibson Auction Inc. is very proud to announce that we have been commissioned to sell the important lifelong Civil War collection of Joseph "Abe" Leisch.  Known for his stunning resemblance to Abraham Lincoln and stirring portrayal of the president in feature films, this lifelong Civil War collector amassed thousands of artifacts that will all be offered to the public without reserves or minimums. For over 50 years Mr Leisch portrayed Abe Lincoln in TV programs, documentaries, many reenactments, was an avid relic hunter, member of The North South Shirmish Association and also a member of the 5th Virginia Volunteer Infantry.

We are honored to offer his entire collection of 1500+ lots on December 10th and 11th with a 2 day preview starting on December 8th. Everything will be sold without reserve to the highest bidder

Joseph "Abe" Leisch Jr., was a 1948 graduate of Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, VA.

In 1952 he joined the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1954 with a medical condition.

After returning home from the military, he worked as an exhibit specialist for the U.S. Navy and worked at Harpers Ferry Center, National Park Service until his retirement in 1975.

He was the owner of Abe's Foundry and played Abraham Lincoln in several documentaries including two TV programs "They've Killed the President" and "The Surrender at Appomattox"..

He maintained membership in the North-South Skirmish Association since 1961 and was a former member of the Sons of the Confederacy Mosby Camp, Front Royal, VA and the Turner Ashby Camp, Winchester, VA.
