Lot 3303: Antique & Vintage THEATER, BALLET, CLASSICAL MUSIC Ephemera Broadway Metropolitan Opera (128 views)

Antique & Vintage THEATER, BALLET, CLASSICAL MUSIC Ephemera Broadway Metropolitan Opera
Estimate: $70 - $200
Description: Details: A wealth of antique and vintage theater, ballet, classical and popular music and culture ephemera comprises this lot, which is mainly drawn from the second quarter of the 20th century. There are two exceptions: an 1884 program from a Staten Island production of "Nero: or, the Fall of Rome" with a wonderfully preserved, colorful chromolithograph cover; and a Victorian-era script of an 1807 "operatic drama" called "The Young Hussar." Two items from Radio City Music Hall are both from 1944: a program for a show which included "National Velvet" with Elizabeth Taylor; and a souvenir booklet. Radio City may have been the last venue to offer movies with live shows, but in the early 1930s it had stiff competition from the Roxy. Included in this lot are thirteen weekly programs, featuring films starring Will Rogers and others. Half a dozen Playbills and theater programs are part of the lot, including one for "Harvey" (1948) and another for Lillian Hellman's "The Children's Hour" (1936). Listed as director in a couple of programs is Antoinette Perry, for for whom Broadway's Tony award was named. Classical music is represented by programs for concerts by Rudolf Serkin, Helen Traubel, Artur Rubenstein, etc. and programs for the Metropolitan Opera from 1912 and 1915. Ballet ephemera is from the 1950s, and includes a large Sadler's Wells souvenir program from 1950, ten Capezio collectors' cards, and a 1953 desk calendar which features dancers in several disciplines. To inspect and acquire more detailed information about this lot, please attend our live preview before the auction. Condition / Notes: This material is all in good or very good condition, with the exception of the 1912 Met Opera program whose pages have come apart. For lots which include only books, our shipping charge applies to any address within the fifty United States. For lots which are not books, the stated shipping cost in this listing will apply only to addresses within the continental 48 states. Within those parameters, the shipping cost for this lot will be: $12.50
