Some of the items in this video were sold on October 24th.
What started out 20 years ago, as a friendly competition between two North Dakota lady friends, ended up with "The Winner" accumulating over 2,000 pieces of Shawnee and the "Second Place Winner" ending up with over 800 pieces! (still a very nice collection!)
Doreen and her husband Clifford had traveled extensively from North Dakota to the East and West coasts. Every shop along the way was scoured for rare and unusual examples for the "Shawnee Room". Doreen was not interested in acquiring duplicates, she sought out items with different colors, decorations and especially gold trim. Quality was always the top concern. No chips, cracks, major crazing or repairs. Some wear on "cold painted" items was acceptable since most of these early cookie jars were used for many years.
Many friendships were established as Doreen and Clifford traveled the countryside. The antique shop owners were always excited when they arrived and I am sure that their visits are truly missed. Both have since passed away and the collection will now be changing hands. The pottery will continue on and hopefully it will give others as much enjoyment as it did for Doreen and Clifford.
