ABOUT THE ESTATE:
Eugene Buel Johnson was the son of Elmer and Lillie Traub Johnson, and grandson of Buel and Marilla Brown Johnson, all of the Centennial Farm on Allen Road outside of Clinton (can trace it back as far as Buel's grandfather, Bartholomew, who had the land at the time Michigan became a state). He was born Oct. 18, 1915 on the farm and graduated from Clinton HS in 1931 at the age of 15 (as valedictorian of his class). He studied mechanical engineering at Lawrence Tech and Wayne State, and became a machine tool operator. He worked, among others, for Clinton Engine, Ford, and Teer-Wickwire in Jackson, before leaving to join his wife, Cathryne Schultz Johnson's brother, Fred Schultz as a machine tool manufacturers' rep/salesman for National Sales Engineering Corp. in Detroit, around 1956. Shortly thereafter, he and Schultz bought the company, he became Vice-President, and later he and Schultz formed a new company as well to represent other lines of machine tool manufacturers, Johnson-Schultz Machinery Sales. Johnson remained V-P of both companies as well as continuing to visit and provide service to numerous machine tool shops all over Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana, until his retirement at age 72 in 1987.
Cathryne Schultz Johnson was well-known in this area, long active not only in the Brooklyn School PTA, but the Michigan state PTA. She also served on the Brooklyn School Board, and the Norvell Township Board (as well as the Planning Board). She was active in St. Joseph's Shrine, and the first woman to serve on the Parish Council there. She was also the first person chosen as Citizen of the Year by the Irish Hills (then Brooklyn) Chamber of Commerce. She was born in Detroit in May 23, 1916. She and Eugene Johnson were married May 27, 1939, and moved to the 1380 Wamplers Lake home in 1946. They lived together there until her death on May 2, 1999, and Eugene remained there until moving to Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh in January 2006. He died November 22, 2007.
