Oscar and Doris Henes were engaged in farming, and Oscar was one of the few people who had only one mailing address his entire life. Both called Lodi Township their home and kept the family farm as their livelihood and residence. Both sets of their parents were also farmers and possessed the hard working ethic of the era. Together Oscar and Doris awaited the "weather to break each spring" so they could head out to begin the plantings. A wide array of animals also made their home at the farm, as did only the "red tractors," as Oscar always chided his relatives they were better. Oscar was a "barnyard engineer" constantly renovating and updating his equipment and farm buildings. Doris cooked three meals a day, tended a beautiful garden, supplemented the income with her eggs plus kept a meticulousd house, and when, needed helped in the fields. Oscar's love of farming brought him pride when the farm earned centennial status in 2002.
