BIOGRAPHY: ROD CABORN
Rod Caborn grew up on the east coast of England, and received a BA with honors in Business Studies from Sheffield University. He was recruited from Sheffield to play professional rugby in Spain. Under his captaincy F.C. Barcelona won back to back national championships. Rod met his wife in Barcelona and returned with her to her native California. While studying for his masters in linguistics at San Jose State, California, Rod experienced first hand the dire financial straits of many Californian schools and resolved to apply his sales and marketing skills to a career in fundraising.
In 1993 he founded First Class Fundraising which from its inception specialized in large, interactive events and assemblies that unified and empowered children to step up and make a difference. This emphasis on community-building fundraising dove-tailed perfectly with the emergence of the benefit auction fundraiser, which has become such an invaluable source of income for schools and non-profits alike. Rod is a graduate of the Missouri School of Auctioneering which is described in Newsweek as ‘The Harvard of auctioneering.’
During his 10 years on the auctioning circuit, Rod has raised millions of dollars for local and national organizations and established himself as one of the finest benefit auctioneers in the country. His clients include The American Cancer Society, Rotary International, Hospice, CASA, Second Harvest Food Bank, The Dominican Foundation, O’Neills, Driscolls, Santa Clara University and scores of Schools and Educational Foundations. He is always thrilled to provide testimonials on request.
Rod lives with his wife and their two young daughters in Santa Cruz, California.
